6 months this Thursday. I'm just barely making it though. My supply has taken a huge nosedive. But I'm going to hang on as long as the boobs will let me.

This sums it up for me! I want to nurse over the summer but when August comes I don't want to break out that pump again!

It's pretty typical to have a supply dip around 6 months. Usually it goes back up. My strategy is that I always make sure to pump at least as much as DD ate during the day. So if she eats 20 oz and I've only pumped 18 during the 4 sessions before I pick her up from daycare, I pump another time in the evening. I also pump a few times over the weekend as a buffer. I'm probably overdoing it somewhat, but I wasn't nearly as diligent with DS and he ended up getting a lot of formula. The goal this time is 0 formula.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.Still EBF-ing! BFing is harder than I ever imagined. Even now, somehow at 5 1/2 months, I let her get away with a bad latch for a couple feeds or something and I'm still healing a giant scab on my nipple.
It was a fun time when she spit up a bunch of brown stuff and with a call to the pedi, I was assured that it's just old blood from my cracked nipples. Fun.
I hope to make it a year, but I certainly have some understanding now as to why people stop.
I'm EPing at this point. My goal was 6 months, which we hit on the 8th. I'm now going back and forth about how much longer I want to do it for... My husband wants me to stop, because he just wants me to have more time to myself, etc, which I totally understand. And, part of me wants to quit too... but I keep doing it. I figure I'll take it month by month and see how it goes. I have a freezer stash that will last about 5-6 weeks if we mix in formula. DD has already had formula here and there when I haven't been able to keep up, but doesn't get much, if any, most weeks. The max she gets in a week is maybe 10 oz.
We'll just see how it goes... My supply is fine, so I feel like I should keep doing it since there really isn't a reason to stop.
This is me exactly. As of the 10th, when she turned 6 months old, I am only nursing her once in the morning and once in the evening. She gets formula the rest of the time. She doesn't care about the formula and that was pretty much the only times I actually got to NURSE her anyway. The rest was just pumping.
Say WHAT!!! Honey if you are still dealing with cracked nips, call your OB and tell her/him that you need to have APNO cream right now! The LC did this for me in the beginning and it was a life saver. I know your pain, but get the cream so you can heal.
Me! Yay!!! I bf when we're together and pump 2-3x at work, whick stinks but I'm not ready for nursing to be over. I hope to make it 6 more months... or beyond
Me! Made it to 6 months on May 10th (woo to the hoo!)
I am now starting to supplement when needed and give myself a break, so DD has had a few ounces of formula since the 10th. I'm hoping to continue BF until at least 9 months.
Oh no, it's not like that - I haven't been dealing with cracked nips for 5 1/2 months straight... (OMG - no way could I deal if that was true!) Somehow AT 5 1/2 months I guess I let her have a bad latch for a couple feeds or something and just recently had a case of cracked nips. (Well, it's still healing, but it's almost completely better.)
My point was, I thought breast feeding pain/issues would only affect people in the early days. I didn't think I'd get ANOTHER cracked nip after months of having "good" feedings.
I am!
I am!! Had to work with an LC and up my pumping, but am so excited. 6 mos. is one week from today!
Interesting on the supply dip! I had no supply issues previously. I even had an oversupply at first. I thought I was good to go with my supply but suddenly it dipped this week. I tried to never use my stash and was slowly increasing it so I was very surprised. I started fenugreek tabs and it seems to be helping. Any clue why the dip takes place?
We have teeth! I almost quit that first week with teeth. I tried a light thumping on his cheek and that fixed the biting!
This talks about it a bit, but I don't really know
