  • T will be 6 months on May 29th & I'm still EP'ing.  I'm hoping to continue as long as I have supply.  Congratulations to you for sticking with it! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker image

I am still EBF and am a teacher as well. I have also been debating pumping next school year. It is SUCH a pain. I will probably calculate how long my freezer stash will last (I'm guessing 2 months by the end of summer), and will stop pumping 2 months before she turns 1. Still go back and forth though. I love nursing and hate pumping.

  • DD will be 6 months on the 25. I know I will make it until then, so I will meet my goal (yay!!), but I'm having such bad supply issues I don't know how much longer I will be able to go. I'm going to go as long as I can, even if it means only nursing once or twice a day!

  • 6 months this Thursday. I'm just barely making it though. My supply has taken a huge  nosedive. But I'm going to hang on as long as the boobs will let me.

  • LO is 6 months on the 21st and we're still going strong.  I can't wait to hang up the pump too but I do enjoy nursing him.  I feel like my work day will free up so much once I get to stop pumping.  I would like to start going back to the gym during lunch but with pumping, eating lunch at my desk and catching up on work while doing so, I find it hard to fit that time in.  But once pumping is done, it's ON! :)

This sums it up for me! I want to nurse over the summer but when August comes I don't want to break out that pump again!

  • I'm still here too! I've had a lot of supply issues and have come to terms with the fact that I'll be on Domperidone until DS weans. I plan on BFing him until he's a year then start weaning, unless he's still allergic to WCM. Then I'll have to think of something else.

  • I notice a trend of a lot of us saying we're still at it but supply is tanking.  Is that something that happens around 6 month mark normally?  Or is everyone else in the same boat as me and haven't been able to keep up with pumping as often as we should when LO is not around?

It's pretty typical to have a supply dip around 6 months.  Usually it goes back up.  My strategy is that I always make sure to pump at least as much as DD ate during the day.  So if she eats 20 oz and I've only pumped 18 during the 4 sessions before I pick her up from daycare, I pump another time in the evening.  I also pump a few times over the weekend as a buffer.  I'm probably overdoing it somewhat, but I wasn't nearly as diligent with DS and he ended up getting a lot of formula.  The goal this time is 0 formula.

6 months and still going strong EBFing (I am in Canada so I am not working so don't have to pump), my goal was only to do 6 months originally, but it is still going well, so I am now hoping for a year, then to start weaning by not offering but not refusing if DS asks.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • DD and I had to stop bfing at 5 months because of  her medical issues, but I just wanted to stop in to say "Congratulations!" to all of you who are still breastfeeding.  Way to go! I know it isn't always easy to breastfeed, so serious kudos to all of you. :-)

  • Still EBF-ing!  BFing is harder than I ever imagined.  Even now, somehow at 5 1/2 months, I let her get away with a bad latch for a couple feeds or something and I'm still healing a giant scab on my nipple.  :(  It was a fun time when she spit up a bunch of brown stuff and  with a call to the pedi, I was assured that it's just old blood from my cracked nipples.  Fun.

I hope to make it a year, but I certainly have some understanding now as to why people stop.

  • I am!  just so you know, as you get close to age 1, you may be able to cut pumping sessions but still nurse if you want to.  I wouldn't wean completely just because you want to stop pumping.  And believe me, I'm a teacher, I understand the hassle in a school setting.

  • Still BFing here.  And pumping at work.  Only like 115 days left of work pumping!  :)  I'll stop pumping at 12 months and continue nursing on demand until he weans, which judging by my other two will be between 18 and 24ish months.

  • I'm EPing at this point. My goal was 6 months, which we hit on the 8th. I'm now going back and forth about how much longer I want to do it for... My husband wants me to stop, because he just wants me to have more time to myself, etc, which I totally understand. And, part of me wants to quit too... but I keep doing it. I figure I'll take it month by month and see how it goes. I have a freezer stash that will last about 5-6 weeks if we mix in formula.  DD has already had formula here and there when I haven't been able to keep up, but doesn't get much, if any, most weeks.  The max she gets in a week is maybe 10 oz.

We'll just see how it goes... My supply is fine, so I feel like I should keep doing it since there really isn't a reason to stop.

This is me exactly.  As of the 10th, when she turned 6 months old, I am only nursing her once in the morning and once in the evening.  She gets formula the rest of the time.  She doesn't care about the formula and that was pretty much the only times I actually got to NURSE her anyway.  The rest was just pumping.

Say WHAT!!! Honey if you are still dealing with cracked nips, call your OB and tell her/him that you need to have APNO cream right now! The LC did this for me in the beginning and it was a life saver. I know your pain, but get the cream so you can heal.

I am now starting to supplement when needed and give myself a break, so DD has had a few ounces of formula since the 10th. I'm hoping to continue BF until at least 9 months.

Oh no, it's not like that - I haven't been dealing with cracked nips for 5 1/2 months straight...  (OMG - no way could I deal if that was true!)  Somehow AT 5 1/2 months I guess I let her have a bad latch for a couple feeds or something and just recently had a case of cracked nips.  (Well, it's still healing, but it's almost completely better.)

My point was, I thought  breast feeding pain/issues would only affect people in the early days.  I didn't think I'd get ANOTHER cracked nip after months of having "good" feedings.

Interesting on the supply dip! I had no supply issues previously. I even had an oversupply at first. I thought I was good to go with my supply but suddenly it dipped this week. I tried to never use my stash and was slowly increasing it so I was very surprised. I started fenugreek tabs and it seems to be helping. Any clue why the dip takes place?
