on neocate now and not liking it?

so the poops were still to frequent and mucusy on the alimentum....i called the doctor and he said to do neocate.  i gave it to them for the first time an hour ago and they really struggled with it - kept pulling off every 1/2 ouce and just seemed like they didnt like it. they chugged down the alimentum...but we cant do that formula anymore.  is this just something they have to get used to? they cant be on the alimentum anymore bc it's not enough.  i am so frustrated i dont knwo what to do....what if they wont drink this stuff??  im so tired of calling the doctor now....it's like i talk to them every day.  my doctor said that he has never never seen a "failure" on the neocate...i hope he's right, because now im just really worried...

    Neocate tastes gross.  There's no way around it.  I would mix it with the alimentum and gradually increase the neocate-to-alimentum ratio until the alimentum is all gone.  Our allergist and GI told us to go cold turkey, but my son was flat out refusing to drink neocate, and I wasn't going to watch my FTT child give up on eating.  It took Aidan about a week of weaning down before he took it straight.

    same as above. it is truly disgusting. i had to wean my daughter onto it by mixing it gradually. 1 oz neocate per 3 oz alimentum then gradually increase by the 1oz until you are at a full bottle. she now drinks it w/o a problem & even goes back & forth from breastmilk to neocate with no problem & breastmilk is delicious. 

     also i think the neocate is different then other formulas b/c you are supposed to add the powder first & then add the water up to the oz line & shake. you're not supposed to put the water in first so you might want to make them seperately before mixing.

    I totally have to go re-read my cans of neocate now.  I've never heard this before and we've been using it for seven months!
