How on Earth did you manage the last little bit?

I'm hurting so badly.  I've been told (by the MWs) that stretching won't help because I'm already too loose in the hips.  Chiropractic care is not at all covered by insurance and just an initial visit is REALLY expensive, apparently... Today I can barely walk.  I have to take baby steps and go very slowly.  I was a slow waddler before, but today it's just excrutiating.  I needed DH to help me sit up in bed so that I could get out.  Chasing a toddler is pretty much out of the question- all doors are closed in the hopes he doesn't leave the immediate area.

I take back anything I ever said about women wanting babies to come before their due dates... Just because I didn't get to that with DS1 doesn't mean I don't 100% understand now.  (I'm 37,6 today).

  • I just called a massage school and they are doing a class next weekend that they need pregnant volunteers for.  my sciatic is making it so I cannot walk. I limped around all day yesterday and had heat on it for over 2 hours last night (ok, on and off for 2 hrs) I'm SO excited for this massage, and it will be FREE!

  • I have an E-mail in to the chiropractor... they have strange hours or I'd call.

I had a prenatal massage 2-3 weeks ago and it did NOTHING to help my pain.   Which made me sad... but it makes sense.  It was nice to relax for a bit, but it wasn't what my body needed to feel better.  :-(  A nap might have helped more.

  • Have you tried acupuncture? I know there are some community acupuncture places where it is only like15 bucks and you are just all in the same room together in chairs, vs having a private room.

  • Sheer stubborn determination...my last one was 12 days late and I cursed at that child every day. The non-stop daily pain the last few weeks from my 10 lb baby sitting on my pelvis was nearly unbearable.  I think it was worse than having the twins in there.  I lived with a heat pack on my back.

  • Have you asked your doula for a recommendation?  She might know someone willing to work with you on the fees (in exchange for your doula's recommendation).  I'll ask for you if Heather knows anyone.

I haven't yet.  I did let her know how uncomfortable I was and she gave me the name of someone that does prenatal massage, but when I searched for that person, I couldn't find anything about her and prenatal massage, only other kinds of massage, so I went with Heather's rec instead.  The pain has just kicked up this bad today.  Before it sucked really bad, but I could manage for a bit and then rest for a bit and then do more.  Today I'm wincing with every single step.  :-/

  • Just by complaining and living with it I guess. I went to the chiro multiple times and it did not help one bit. ((hugs)). The end is near! I had a few prenatal massages too. I wouldn't really say I felt better afterward. It was nice to relax but it didn't really help the pain.

  • I just FBed you a recommendation.
  • Try a different chiro or let them know the situation. They may want you as a client more than they want the extra money for the one visit. Also, if you don't need/want XRays, that might get the price down. I've never paid the listed initial visit price.

Also, let's say it is $200 and despite every trick above,  you just cannot get the price down. Consider if that price is that worth not being in misery, if there is any way you can swing it. I'd rather not eat out for two months than not be able to walk.

  • I felt like that with my second pregnancy.  This time hasn't been as bad but still more painful than the first.  Can you get in a pool?  Water aerobics or just moving around in the warm water always made/make me feel better.  Good luck, you're almost there!

It depends where you're hurting.  Is it mostly your hips or pelvic girdle or round ligaments?

Simply wrapping a scarf tightly around your hips can help the pelvic girdle:

Abdominal release helps the round ligaments, as does wearing a belly bra:

    Acupressure helps the hips:

  • I appreciate all the help, ladies!  I've contacted to chiros for pricing and we're trying to decide now if it's worth the initial expense.  I'm actually MUCH better today, so I think I did something on Sunday (Sunday night ::cough cough::) that just wasn't so good for my body.  I'm still sore but not like yesterday.  Yesterday was just so bad I couldn't move.  Today I've already been up and doing chores without too much complaint from my body.  I'm SO relieved.  I thought I was surely doomed for another couple of weeks with yesterday's pain.  I even agreed to meet DH for lunch and want to try to go to Target for some last minute things for my labor/hospital bags!  AND grocery shopping all in one day.  Dinner will probably be super easy though... lately, I can't manage shopping and real dinner in one day!
