Positive test yesterday, line not getting darker

Hi ladies. I have no idea if this is the right place to post this, but I am so so nervous I need to let it out. Just tell me if this fits better somewhere else. I've been getting really light positives since Friday with a dark enough positive yesterday I was pretty sure I was pregnant. My husband came home from out of town and I told him and we called our families for support. Both of our families knew about our previous loss. We asked for prayers and I really wanted to tell them and have them be happy because last time we didn't tell them until we were already losing the pregnancy.

This morning I tool another FRER and the line was lighter than yesterday. I also dipped a digi and it said not pregnant. I am freaking out. I need to call the RE office (we only had our consult, SA, and bloodwork) and then maybe my regular office because my insurance doesnt cover anything pregnancy related at the RE's. I should be exactly 4 weeks today.

Has this happened to anyone else with a positive result? I know I probably need betas. Am I rightfully freaking out or do I need to chill?

Are you taking the tests at the same time each day, using the same brand? This can affect your results.

Yes, you are correct that the only way to really know if this is a c/p (early m/c) or not is to do betas.

I did have that happen to me (a few light days, followed by a dark day, followed by light and ultimately negative days). Sadly, it didn't end well. I hope you have a better outcome.

Try not to stress! Easier said than done...I know. Its completely normal for the line to not get darker or possibly get lighter...each strip is different. Digitals are not as sensitive so that could explain the not pregnant result. I'm sure they will get you in for Betas since you've had a previous loss. FX this is your sticky baby!

Yes, same test with FMU. Ugh....I hope they can get me in and I really hope this isn't happening again

Ultimately, I think it is time for you to call your Dr. and get some beta's drawn.

If you haven't been taking the tests at the same time with the same type of urine (FMU or SMU, afternoon, etc) then it will be difficult to go by darkness of the line.

Let me tell you my two experiences with this.

In March, I got a very faint line on an FRER on a Friday with FMU, I had a beta drawn that day and it was 9, the line stayed faint on Saturday afternoon but was definitely there. I went in for another draw on Monday, and it was a 7. I got my period on Wednesday. So that one turned out to be a CP.

In April, I got a line on an FRER at 10dpo in the afternoon. I figured I would get a darker line with FMU the next morning. Well, the line was barely there with FMU, but was still a bit darker that afternoon. So I called the next day after the FMU line was still very faint (12dpo) and talked to my OB, telling him I was afraid I was having another CP so he ordered betas. My first beta was 83, the next was 197, and here I am still pregnant today. I'm not far along yet, but I'm still here.

So at this point for you, it can go either way.

ETA: I found after a couple of days that SMU worked better for me than FMU, so I will use that instead in the future. I think it might have something to do with my prenatals (I take them right before bed) So I get up and pee real early at 4:30, then use urine from 7:00 or so.

This has happened to me twice. First time, it did end up being a chemical pregnancy, and then this time I am 8 weeks along and thought the lines were getting lighter for a couple days when I first got my BFP. Someone told me to stop testing and chill, and I couldn't, but if I compared the every other day or every 2 days tests.. they did get darker.

I think it is really hard to compare 2 consecutive days. There are just so many factors with a pee strip- your urine concentration, different strip having different amounts of dye, etc. Hopefully they can get you in for betas so you can stop testing. I hope this one is your sticky baby!!!

Unfortunately the only way to know for sure - as PPs have said is to get betas. Let me tell you - I am a POAS-aholic. Not proud of it - it's a problem, but I pee on sticks like it's my job. Unfortunately line darkness can be indicative of a problem OR it can mean absolutely nothing at all. And it can go either way and you have no way of knowing.

Here's what I mean:

Yesterday I tested on a Wondfo and a FRER - dipped them both in the same urine.

Today I tested on a Wondfo and a FRER - both from the exact same packs that yesterday's tests came from. Both dipped in the same urine.

The Wondfo today is CRAZY darker and the FRER today is CRAZY lighter.

How can one test be darker today and one test be lighter today . . . the only answer is that the lines really don't mean anything. (And I will be the first to admit that this is one of the problems with peeing on sticks all the time.)

So, the bottom line is you need to call your doctor and get quantitative draws done. In the meantime, I will keep you in my T&P. I know what a crazy mind game this is, and I hope you are able to get some good news soon!

Thanks everyone! I went in at 9:30 and had betas and progesterone drawn. I'm supposed to hear back from my nurse midwife tomorrow about the results and if she wants me to go back in for a second draw. I have my fingers crossed and am praying. Looking at the dried line now and comparing to yesterday I think they are pretty much the same so I'm hoping for the best. Thanks for all your replies!

I had the same thing happen, OP...very faint positives on line tests and negative digital tests. Betas will give you a much clearer picture of what's going on. Hoping your numbers look good!
