So there's one woman at work who totally lives for her dog. She absolutely adores him, and it's great that she's so close to him, it's not like she has kids or a husband or anything to reciprocate her affections. His birthday was yesterday and she went to a doggie bakery and bought treats for him, and for the dogs of the people she works with. I was in the room when she brought in the treats for two of my coworkers' dogs, so, to be polite (as she made clear this morning) she offered me one for my two dogs. I thanked her, said that was sweet, etc, and she told me where they were in the fridge here. I (apparently wrongly) interpreted this to mean that I should take the treat she described when I was leaving.
As I was leaving last night, I was feeling like crap (getting over a cold) and just wanted to be gone, and didn't want to bother this person who seemed to be busy with something. So I went and got the treat she had described from the box in the fridge.
I came in this morning, and this coworker is acting coldly to me, as if she was mad. I mention that my dogs really liked the treat, thank you for sharing them. Here's where she blows up. She scolds me and lectures me about how she had picked out specific treats for each persons' dog, had a really bad day and got a speeding ticket on the way from picking up the treats yesterday, and how my friend whose dog just turned 10 wasn't going to get a treat now because she was going to split the one for my dogs 3 ways. Um, ok, had she told me that I would have come and gotten her but as I said, I didn't want to bother her because she seemed pretty busy. Then she starts talking about how the one I took was the one for her dog (even though there were 2 other apparently identical ones in the box). I apologized profusely, and my friend (whose dog turned 10 and who didn't actually care whether or not her dog had a treat) says to just let it go, this person is prone to drama, and she's going to be mad for a few weeks regardless of how I feel about it, so I should just accept that and move on.
I just feel like an absolute fckup about this. I thought that I was doing as I had been instructed, I didn't mean to ruin everything for this person. I don't really think that the dog would care, but now I feel horribly guilty for this. And of course it's the one person in the lab who lives on drama and will seriously hold a grudge for MONTHS (I am not kidding, she gave my abovementioned friend the silent treatment for my entire maternity leave because my friend crossed her). Ugh. Just had to vent.

It's a dog treat! A specially made dog treat! I don't want to sound mean, but this lady is sad. And besides she should have told you which one you were suppose to take if it really was that big of deal.
Wow. It is a dog treat!!!.. Talk about displaced anger
dang,
next time she offers anything just decline, not worth all the craziness.
