Does LO still cry at bedtime?

DD is STTN now but it takes her forEVER to fall asleep at night.  Probably 30-45 min after we put her down.  We have a relaxing routine of brush teeth, story book, put her in bed, sing her a song, kisses, leave.  She'll start off talking to her stuffed bunny, then it turns into whining, then full-blown crying (no screaming, just crying and saying "mamama").  I usually have to go in once to help her get down because she stands in her crib and gets too tired to figure it out.  I don't say a word.  I just go in, lay her down, give her her bunny, and leave.

At what point in her cute little life will she not cry before falling asleep?  Am I doing something wrong? Anybody else's LO still crying in bed?

  • Yep, Ash still cries, unless he is very tired. In which case he just rolls over and goes to sleep. But usually we get anywhere from 5-40 minutes of crying, babbling and fussing.

  • Most of the time not, but sometimes only for a few minutes.  Sometimes for naps he will play in his crib for a bit then lay down.
    No tips, sorry.

Hannah does about half the time. And she totally does the "I stood up and I am too tired to figure out how to lay down" thing. I let her cry for a bit then lay her back down.

  • Not at all. I am actually pretty amazed by this. She is very set in her bed time. If she is not down in that 30 minute frame she's not a happy girl. She can be wide awake and I'll feed her and place her down expecting a scream and nope, she passes right out.

Naps though....that only works about 60% of the time. She will fight those sometimes still.

Yes, and it can last anywhere from 1 min to 45 min.  Typically he babbles or sometimes fusses for less than 10 min though.  But there are definitely nights where he is full out screaming and we have to go in several times to lay him down and soothe him.  Naps are the same way.

  • Em doesn't cry when it's time for bed. Sometimes she'll cry for a while for naps and then fall asleep.  I don't think there is anything to do. I just think they'll grow out of it.  We have a bedtime routine and then I ask Em if she is ready for bed.  She sits up tall and puts her arms out if she is ready. I warn her if it is almost 7:30 because that is the latest we let her stay up. She's good with it.  I am luck that I have a good sleeper.
