XP: Preschool Workbooks

Our boys aren't in preschool yet. We have a nanny about 15 hours a week whose first language is Spanish and she only speaks Spanish with them. I thought it would be a good idea to get some workbooks so that she could work with them on numbers, colors etc. The workbooks could be in English or Spanish, but if they were in Spanish that would be a plus. Any recommendations?
ETA: I wanted to clarify that I am not looking to have my kids sitting at a table all day with homework. We do lots of play to learn colors and numbers etc. They have fun with the one "workbook" that we bought from Target and I didn't know if there were other recs.  This one has them do things like make a line from one animal to the next.

kids learn best through play.   I would ask her to play color sorting games or do counting activities with them.   There are lots of great blogs out there with hands on activities....I am just drawing a blank right now and I don't have any of them bookmarked on this computer.     Give her a bunch of suggested activities to do with the kids to help them learn colors and numbers instead of just a workbook.

We do a lot of just plain play ourselves sorting toys by color, pointing things out, counting toys, thing in books, etc. I have asked our nannyI to work with them on these things too, but was hoping to give her some direction.

  • Your boys are two years old. They really don't need to start being drilled on things now. Soon their lives will revolve around worksheets and workbooks. Like the others, just let them play and be kids. As they get interested in things, go with it. They will learn to love learning things and that will make them want to find out more., That is much more important in the long run. Check out notimeforflashcards.com and Play at Home Mom for ideas that you can give to your nanny. Or, just trust that she knows what she is doing, because I am sure that she does.

Oh I hope I didn't give the impression that I want my boys sitting at a table for hours on end doing multiplication tables. We have a book from Target where they do things like draw a line from one turtle to the next and they like doing that sort of stuff. They lose interest after about 5 minutes and we don't make them sit there once they are ready to go. No drilling for sure.

I LOVE Play at Home Mom. I get tons of ideas from them. We're making elephant toothpaste today! Thanks for the other rec on notimeforflashcards.com. I'll take a look.

  • DD enjoys workbooks, with things like tracing, mazes, matching, and I find the best selection at Sam's Club.

  • My son has loved workbooks since age 2. They are with the coloring books and he can get them out whenever HE wants. We like the Kumon books.
