Re: Setback: milk coming in (sorry, TMI)
I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. I, too, had soaking wet spots on my shirts out of the blue. The hospital, nurses...someone could have warned us or prepared us for that in some way. Our bodies are amazing to know to do that, but it was like a punch right in my heart.
My love is with you.

"How very softly you tiptoed into our world. Almost silently; Only a moment you stayed. But what an imprint your footprints have left on our hearts."
wow, exactly this! I also would try to express a little bit of milk when I was in the shower to lessen the pressure when it was very painful. Although, be careful not to express too much because that will keep up the milk production.
I'm so sorry you're having to experience this. ((hugs))
This. Exactly what I thought every time it happened to me.
I just went through the same thing last week. My mom's a nurse and didn't even think to warn me because it was so early. (That's probably why no-one warned you, too)
My advice is to avoid drinking milk for a while, take warm showers (no baths) and find the most comfortable bras you have to wear. You will start to dry up in a few days.
I choose to look at it this way, when you decide to try again, you know that you'll have no problems breastfeeding, if that's what you want.

I'm sorry. This part is very hard, I do remember.
I would advise against any warm showers or baths, no heating pads. Heat actually stimulates milk production so while it may feel good temporarily it will only make you produce more milk. Same with expressing. Instead, try an ice pack. A couple of bags of frozen peas works well because they form to the shape of your breasts. The cabbage leaves work well too, plus they are "boobie" shaped. Wear a tight sports bra too, even when you sleep. After a few days it should at least feel considerably better. The painful part for me lasted about 3 days, the milk was gone after a week. If you have any pain pills, motrin or ibuprofen that will help too.
Big hugs, mama. It's just another part of this terrible process.
I remember that same thing happened to me in the middle of Walmart picking out a tie for my Dh to wear to our daughters memorial. I was a crying mess it was just proof that life isn't fair and that losing your baby sucks more than anyone knows. I am so sorry hugs to you!!
Wear tight sports bras that should help to clear the milk up some. I am so sorry for your loss and that you are going through this.
Heather
Ticker warning!
When my milk came in after I delivered my son, I wore two tight sports bras a day to help hold my breasts down, and my husband would wrap me in ace bandages at night. It was very uncomfortable but I think it helped my breasts from ever getting too full. I also took sage capsuls, they were a pain in the butt to find but they worked very well.
I was able to do this in memory of my daughter. I pumped while we were in the NICU because I was certain she would get better, and be super hungry. She didn't get better, but I had pumped 236 oz in the 10 days we were there. It felt good to be able to help some one else' baby get a healthy start, and to know that something good came out of our horrible time there.
