how often do you hold your toddler?

I didn't realize I was/become super AP until DD was a little older and I decided that my instincts of co-sleep/baby wearing were okay and I stopped listening to everyone telling me "that was wrong"

Lately, I feel like I want to hold, snuggle, and be with her 24/7. I don't know if it's because she's "becoming a two year old" (aka.. acting out) and I want to give her extra love or if I'm just overly needy but she just doesn't want to be with me as much as I want to be with her! Ah. She does cuddle every day before nap time and hugs me all the time. What's my deal?

I'm going to die when she goes off for college, haha!

Re: how often do you hold your toddler?

  • I kiss, hug, and hold DS often, very often.  Have you read the 5 Love Languages?  It is a great book and while reading it I realized that my love language is physical touch, which is why I express love this way too. (DS's love language is quality time, so I make sure to show him love "his way" too).   I am still very affectionate in public and around others with DS.  I want him knowing it is normal and healthy to be affectionate often and while other people are around.  I have occassionally received a side-eye from other people, but I know in my heart I will never regret being affectionate with him.

I'm not quite there yet, but my love languages are time and touch.  DD is going to have to get used to lots of snuggles.  ;)

  • As long as it isn't forced It isn't unhealthy... I would much rather look back and remember how much I hugged her than look back and think  didn't hug enough! Lately my little girl has been showering me with hugs and kisses and I love it I really can't get enough of her sweetness.

I agree with this statement too.  DS is very affectionate back; however I also know he will get to a stage where he wants more privacy and may back off on the affection.  But since we aren't there yet we will continue to do lots of hugs and kisses!!

DD is held a lot...  and she is rocked to sleep if she asks.
  • LO likes me to hold her quite a bit. Or hold her hand. She generally liks to be closer to me and she is more independent with DH - he is the primary caregiver during the day. I hold/snuggle her when we are nursing and reading stories. As well as napping sometimes. She wants me to hold her hand on walks all the time, and will also drag me around the house to play with things and sit on my lap. I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

  • DD just spent the majority of a two-hour train ride sitting on my lap yesterday just because she wanted to (I could have easily kept reading her books while she sat next to me or across from me). So, my answer is OFTEN, and DD is almost 4.

Some kids are snugglier than others. I lucked out and got a super-snuggly one. That makes me very happy.

  • As often as he will let me!!

  • I hold my son a lot too. Smile

And I think I hold him more now then I have in the last few months since he is almost 2 and has a "need or desire" for the affection at random moments where as a few months prior he was just discovering independence wouldn't stand for it, lol and since he is getting older I definitely take advantage of any time he wishes to be held.
