mucus plug and bloody show question...

I am due TOMORROW, but I haven't experienced any of what the other moms on here are referring to....

I've had significant discharge, but it's been only clear- nothing brown or bloody. Is it possible to lose it over time and not have any color? I wasn't aware that it would be an isolated "event" of losing it. (that's kind of what it sounds like on on here!)

And the bloody show.... what exactly is that?

My doc has been very straight and to the point, so details are sometimes spared.

Re: mucus plug and bloody show question...

  • I never saw either with my first, so don't be discouraged. I went into labor at 40+2. This time around I've had regular bits of mucus, but nothing red or brown and only tiny bits.

I didn't have either until I started labor at 40 +2 so if you haven't noticed either of them by now I wouldn't worry.

  • With my first, I lost my MP weeks before I delivered. It was clear, and I lost it over several days. My bloody show occurred WHEN labor started. It's red blood streaked with mucus, where as your MP is usually mucus streaked with brown or pink blood. Bloody show also gets heavier as labor progresses.
  • I went into labor at 11pm the day before my EDD, bloody show at 4am on my EDD which told me it was real labor. It was clearish mucus with a bloody tinge. Throughout the rest of the day I lost my mucus plug in bits and pieces. 4am the next day, I delivered.
  • I think it's pretty variable.  My bloody show was bright red, liquid blood, no mucus.  I went into labor about 18 hours later.

This exactly. I had episodes of thick, crazy mucus and losing pieces of my MP weeks before labor. My bloody show occured simultaneously with early labor...i.e. red blood with mucus ( not mucus with just tinges of blood) that came and went for like 18 hours while I labored at home.
