Finally had my cervical check today, no dilation, "very little" effacement, baby is "very high up", and "very few" contractions on the NST. So what is this painful constant cramping doing???? Just for fun and not accomplishing anything?? It's been going on almost every day for two weeks!!!
The midwife said, it doesn't mean its not doing anything, its just not producing visible changes in your cervix. Okay.. but then what is it doing exactly?
Please do not tell me "Baby will come when baby is ready" or any similar platitudes because I'm probably going to be induced on my due date for GD.
Re: All this "prelabor" for nada???
It doesn't mean it's not do anything. All those BH and cramps also strengthen your uterus and prepare it for the major work out you're about to give it. Some of the cramps are from loosening ligaments and joints. All women are built differently, but, especially in a FTM, it's not unusual to have NO progress before labor starts. It also doesn't mean you won't go into labor on your own. You can be locked up tighter than fort knox at 10am, and deliver at 10pm the same day. Just like those who are dilated and effaced can be that way for WEEKS. Try not to get discouraged. Don't look at it as what your body isn't doing. Look at it as practice runs for the real deal, because that's ALL it really is.
Go do something for yourself. Pedicure, horrible food, shopping, a movie...maybe even cry it out. (hugs)
This gives me some hope! Silly question though - did you feel that things had changed in those weeks? more cramping or BH or was it pretty much happening unnoticed.
If that's true its a comforting thought.
I was having a ton of BH and my Dr checked me a week ago Thursday and I was super high and closed, cervix was hard. Then this Tuesday I told the Dr. I was still having a lot of BH and she checked again, wasnt going to cause it wasnt even a week and my cervix was low soft and fingertip open.
Things can change quickly.
Totally agree! Frustrating, though, I know.
