Update (finally) and happy to report Baby Alex is doing great!!!

First, I want to thank everyone for the T&P and I am sorry it took me so long to get back on and update but as you can imagine it has been quite an incredible couple of weeks. Alex had surgery to repair the hole in his diapragm at just 6 days old and his surgeon was amazing!!! His entire large and small intestines had migrated up into his lung cavity and they all had to be pulled back down into place and then the hole was fixed!!! He recovered beautifully like the little super star that he is (and at his own super fast pace)!!! He only took pain meds for 24 hours and he "helped" take out is ventilator just a day and a half after surgery...the docs agreed he was ready and he never looked back getting stronger each day. I was then able to put him directly to breast just 3 days after surgery (we had to use nipple shield at first but we are now nursing very well without...it was a challenging process to say the least with lots of pumping/blisters while he was NPO/fed intravenously and a steep learning curve but we persevered and it is paying off) and miraculously he was then released from the NICU just 6 days after his major surgery!!! So he ended up coming home on Aprill 30th which was our scheduled c-section date. We then had a couple bumps and scares over the past week and a half or so but today the visiting nurse came and confirmed that he finally gained weight (and lots), he was 6 lb7 oz at birth and had climbed to 7lb before leaving hospital though they warned he was pumped with water for surgery which he would ose...which he did...then he got stuck at 6lb10oz for over a week...but today she confirmed he gained 10ozs since Monday...tipping the scales at 7lb4ozs!!!! I finally feel like I can take a breath and start to relax and get into a "normal" routine...except for all the dr appointments and visiting nurse appts but i am not complaining it is great to have had such amazing medical care throughout this process! I hope to have more time soon to get back on here more often and keep up on how all the May mommies are doing!!!! Thanks again for the kind words,thoughts/prayers and support!!!

so happy things are going well! it must have been hard to see him go through surgery. sounds like you have a little trooper! enjoy that little squishy baby = )
