2nd Trimester

The next person to ask me if I want "diet" gets punched in the solar plexus.

Am I the only one this happens to? I go to a restaurant and order a coke. The waiter looks at me and casually says "Diet Coke?" Seriously. All. The. Time. As if I misspoke or something.

I order cream cheese with my bagel, and the guy at Starbucks asks if I want light cream cheese. Or they ask if I want non-fat milk in my drink.

If I wanted diet, I would order diet. These pregnancy hormones totally have me ready to Hulk Out on the next presumptious waiter to passive-aggressively call me fat.

Anyone else want to scream "I'm not fat, I'm pregnant!" to the world? I can't wait until this bump looks more like a baby and less like I ate an entire bag of cheezy poofs.

(P.S. It's cool if I post in 2nd tri, right? I'm like reallyreally close!)

I find this happens all the time, even when I'm not pregnant. (And the non-pregnant me is scrawny, by my BMI I'm underweight.)

I think they are just programmed to ask because so many people order diet and low-fat everything.

I always eat full-fat dairy, the more fat the better! So when there's a new person working at the coffee shop, they look at me like I have 2 heads the first time I ask for my chai latte to be made with half-and-half or heavy cream; they're like "skim?", and I have to restate my request. Usually followed by a "are you sure?".

Hehe, cheezy poofs. I'm giggling for some reason.

I believe 13w3d is the start of 2nd tri ;-)

Like PP said, I think it's because so many order diet they're programmed. Next time say "no, diet's bad for my baby, but thank you" or something. That way you get it in that you're pregnant and ordered correctly (and I'm not saying anything against those that drink diet sodas btw)

  • As a big-boned lady Stick out tongue I always wait for this shoe to drop, but it really never does. We were out at a nice place last weekend for our anniversary and I forewarned the waitress I was pg because I was looking like I was going to devour the wine list, but lamenting that  I cannot partake yet. So I ordered a Coke and she didn't bat an eye. No "you mean diet?" Q. She just brought and poured my Coke.

I've never had a barrista insist I mean skim milk for my latte's or anything like that either. I mean really. SKIM in a latte? Might as well just drink water Wink. I'm kidding. Calm yo'selves.

The other night DH and I were grocery shopping and he grabbed a bottle of 1/2+1/2 and noticed there was 'fat free' 1/2+1/2 right underneath. We both went "what could POSSIBLY be the point of THAT?!"

Ummm... Wow. lol. I've never heard of fat free half and half. That just seems like an oxymoron to me.

I wonder how much crap they have to put it in to make it resemble real half-and-half...

    DH sent me this yesterday:

In the U.S., half-and-half is typically half milk and half cream and contains about 12 percent fat, so how can such a product be rendered fat-free? Answer: by replacing butterfat (a mostly saturated fat) with corn syrup and adding chemicals and thickeners to simulate fat's texture and mouth-feel. Ick!

  • This made me smile.  Everyone seems to have an annoying opinion.  I still drink diet soda, but I get the side eye for that choice as well!  You just cant win.

I haven't had this happen but I don't order pop often but apparently these people don't know that diet does not mean caffiene free! Either way your drinking caffiene! Some people! As for passing judgement on you, I think its just more about being pregnant. Everyone has their opinion on everything you do whether they've been pregnant or not!

I almost never go the "diet" or "fat-free" route myself, but the fat free half & half really isn't bad at all!  I personally can't tell the difference, so I always use it when cooking/baking.

This happens to my husband all the time!!!!  He isn't even a big guy, but they always say, "Diet?" and it makes him so mad!  LOL

Luckily it doesn't happen to me because I'm already self-conscious about how I look and I'd probably start crying.
