I have a chocolate labrador named Naomi...honestly, it took SO and I days to come up with her name...SO gifted her to me for Christmas 7 years ago and she was first named Holly (tis the season), then Coda (The cute as* little bear in a disney movie because she looked like a little bear), then there was a day or two she was nameless while SO and I scrounged through a baby name book finally deciding on Naomi. We get so many odd looks when we tell people her name. One woman even told me that it was no name to waste on a dog. Thank you for your opinion, lady, but I will have to disagree and tell you that the name is so utterly fitting for her.
Anyone else have a pet or know of a pet with a name that is generally a "human" name.
I know a ton of dogs with the names Abby and Bailey.
Re: "Human" Name for a Dog
I've had a few foster dogs with human names! Oscar, Emma, Petey.
My old family dog was named Heidi.
My sister's dog is named Peyton. They are Colts fans...
That is so weird that the lady said that to you. I have never heard of a dog named Naomi but I can just see it! She sounds like she looks cute.
My pets have always had human names. I've had a goldfish named Arnold! Here is what we have now:
Dog: Chloe
Cats: Henry and Gwendolyn
So totally kicking myself for using Henry. I would really like to use that name for a boy. We are having such a hard time coming up with boys names, and I used my favorite on my cat!
Our dog's name is Archie. He was named after Snake from Degrassi.
I know a woman with dogs named Chuck and Mabel.
My dog growing up was named Holly because I got her for Christmas.
My parents' dog now is named Riley, which I always thought was a dog's name, but apparently not anymore.
Our dog is named Hobbes, which I would think is firmly in the dog camp, but with so many last names as first names, who knows?
ETA: The human name on a dog that really cracks us up is the dog Kevin in Up.

I have a friend with a cat named Lisa. She let her 5 year old name her and he picked Lisa because that is mommys name and she hates it. LOL.
We have 2 dogs, Yoda a jack russell and Orla a retriever mix. Those names are kinda out there but definitely fitting.
I work part time at a vets office and there are TONS of animals with human names. Don't sweat it. That lady is crazy. It's probably more normal for an animal to have a human name than for it to be named "Fluffy" or "Tiger".
Not to mention, I have 5 animals (I know, I know, I'm crazy) and they are:
Maddox, Lily, Rusty, Suzy, and Kittie (She's too cool to be named "Kitty" so, she gets the "ie" because it's obviously short for something like Kathryn and not a complete lack of creativity on her owner's part LOL)
This is hilarious!
Love it! We have been discussing an addition of a furry baby to our family. Preferably a yellow lab (female) and I told SO I would like her to be named Fiona.
I think Naomi and Fiona is an adorable furry sib set.
Our dog was Anna. We also have a Casey. Our cats are Phoebe and Chandler.
Growing up, my dog's names were all human names. Emily, Gracie, John, Penelope.
We've always named our pets human names.
Our dog is Henry Atticus.
Between my husband's and my families we've had Alex, Sadie, Earl, Pete, Toby, Jade, Stella, Sophie, Jacob, Wesley, Sam, Oscar, Zoe, Peter, Paul and Mary.

My dad is a big fan of giving his dog's human names.
He currently has Katie and Jake.
In the past there has been Luke, Barney, Zack, and Suzie.
My dogs are Spike and Daisy! I guess Daisy can be a human name, but she was a rescue and came with her name!

Almost all the dogs I know have human names.

Our dogs are Rocco and Lucy. I think they are fitting as dog names but are also nice human names (actually I love the name Lucy for a little girl).
Our neighbor's dog is Dale.
My chihuahua is Zack. He had the name when I got him and he was already a year old so I kept it. Our lab is Tia Maria. DH got her 9 years ago from an ex and they named her.
So funny. We have 2 bulldogs and their names are Bruce and Tillie Mae. Looks like we have similar taste in pet names
We used to have a Maggie and a family member has a Miranda.
Honestly, though, I've got to say the older I get (and especially now that we're naming a human baby), I am not such a big fan of human names on dogs anymore. We had a situation where a family name was given to a dog (kind of a bummer), and that got me thinking more about it, and I think from here on out, any pets (for my household) will get "pet names." I've also seen "name regret" with some... several family members used their favorite names on dogs only to get pregnant later and wish they had saved it.
But to each his own. It's not like I am going to get mad at someone for using a human name on a pet.
My aunt had a dog named Damian, and another named Toby.
I had a turtle named Sally when I was little.
My great grandmother had a cat named Suzie.
My sister named her dog Ashley after a human. Some peopl might consider Paisley a person name. "Dog" names are NMS - I don't think we''ll ever have a dog with a name like Buttons or Muffin or Blackie. I don't see naming a dog a human name to be wasting a name at all. In fact, I think it's a great way to use guilty pleasure name.

My dog is named Owen. The first night I had him, I was watching Wedding Crashers and talking about how I liked Owen Wilson. Then I just decided that'd be a cute name for my dog. It stuck and now I couldn't imagine his name being anything else.
For what it's worth, his middle name is Pants. Don't ask....
Same! One of my dogs is named Katie Sue.
I have a pit bull named Gia.
Growing up I had a German Shepard named Bruce and a Lab named Penny.

Oh. Em. Gee. Another Degrassi fan!! My name here used to be broomhead.
OP, my old dog growing up was named Winnie, after the character on The Wonder Years (didn't mention this in the Winifred post, because I don't think of it as a dog name). I had fish named George and Martha, and a bird named Gertrude (Gertie for short). I'm fine giving a pet a human name, but I wouldn't use one I'd ever want to give a real kid.
Just among my friends the dog names are:
Molly
Sadie
Chloe
Tucker
Riley
Bella
Max
Daisy
Lucy
All of our pets have always had regular people names, even the hamsters.
They have ranged from Damian, Trevor, Charles to Abigail and Max. Oddly enough the only name that sounded like it could be an "animal" name was Mitzi and that was a cat we named after a friend who moved away. (as kids)
My Mom's dogs are Billy and Rudy. In-laws dogs are Charlotte, Toby and Sandy.
Our dog has a human name, but a pretty uncommon one. She is Nika.
Cole Joseph 7/05/07
Nora Anne 11/03/12

Every now and then someone will post on this board saying how much they dislike human name for dogs. I think it's weird that people care so much.
Ours are Jude and Lucy, and our previous dog was Penny. (We're Beatles fans.) Other family dog names have been Mindy, Lily, Franklin, and Abigail.
