FFS - Watch out, the new format SUCKS!

Hi ladies!! I've been MIA I know. Sorry about that! Miss you ladies.

If you don't post over on the Nest you haven't been lucky enough to see the new posting format. It's horrid. It just switched about an hour ago. Tons more scrolling, way too bright (like blindingly white at times, no more HTML supported, and if you have your preferences set to bump mode right now, you might want to click out before they decide to do the bump because those that toggle back and forth are locked into bump mode (viewing last posted items first).

Anyway.....hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to catch up in the next few days! xoxo

ETA: oh yeah, and it randomly selected a post count and color for you. I'm back to bronze with 1000 or so posts over there. WTF. Fail nest gods, fail.

I know it says no HTML but if you hit "quote" the body is obviously HTML. What is this bump mode format?

Bump mode posted the threads with the newest replies first. I like to toggle back and forth with the feature. Some use it all the time.

I never even thought of the quote function but yeah...that doesn't make any sense. I haven't tried it yet but I've heard when you do go to quote it's harder to edit the (quote user) parts.

Ugh. I'm so not a fan.

I am totally down for it and would set it up if anyone wanted to. I'm a part of the main IF FB group but for various reasons, I am hesitant to post there.

I was just coming to see if anyone had talked about this over here too. It's awful and posts seemed to have been randomly deleted. I would also be down with a FB group or something because until they fix the format, it's barely useable. It slowed down my whole computer.

that's fine as long as set up is same. i like seeing post titles and then needing to click to see responses

lol, I'm so confused as to what we're talking about right now. If the bump changes format, that's when we (could) start a new IFV FB page or find another message board? Can you believe I have pretty much never posted on any other forums other than the knot, nest and then bump?

ok I have only passing familiarity of these options:

n.etwork54 hosts boards but you see the title of the responses. you also have the option for it to be pw protected because anyone can post to the public board, I think w/out an account. It's ghetto, no ads but no PIP either.

IVF connections is the slowest board in the universe, but they have a vets board already. you need an account to even view posts but they're organized similarly to the b. I don't know if you can post HTML.

I haven't looked into other options if anyone else has any experience with this or other boards they frequent whose format they like. Some research would need to be done if we migrate, but it makes keeping up with PAIF/SAIF a whole lot harder.... that's a big bad rub. I'm not volunteering to do this research.

And Rach, I don't post elsewhere either, at least not at present.

I'm going to throw lefora.com into the mix, you view posts much the same way you do here and can post pictures, it can also be set to private so only members can view/post.

IVF.cnx looks like this. is there an example of a PIP that you have access to?

And, I am just saying that just because I'm thinking something out loud doesn't mean I'm an expert on that topic. I know others here have experience with other boards.

The home page has examples of the screens themselves that's pretty good and accurate. I just don't want to post something from a private board.

There used to be a way to make private boards using google. It's called "google groups".

I'd really prefer things to be private for a variety of reasons.

I used to post on my local nest board and it died when new format came. Back in the day I used to post on a board that was created after nest changed last time, but I don't remember name. I could check this weekend, as it's a favorite on my computer at home. If it's still an active board.

Side tangent...I miss all the WC regulars. Yeah there are still BU threads but...

I was talking with Madelyn about them the other day and she said to request an invite but I'm afraid I wouldn't meet the "rules" of being a regular contributor and would get bumped out, lol. I was more of a sporadic poster over there.

We would need a board admin(s) and/or mod. Its potentially a large time commitment and unlike maintaining the blog (which is one way posting), a timely response to actual people is required. All this is new territory for me, I've neither set up a board not been involved in a newly minted one, but it's a commitment I am unable to make with my current obligations. There are other ways I would be happy to contribute.

Ugh! Why the change? Change is not always necessarily good. I wish I could contribute more help in the search for a new board, but my tech skills are definitely lacking! Maybe there will be enough complaints that the change won't happen???

What is crazy is that each board that has changed over has literally died. And the Bump/Knot just doesn't get it or care that people are leaving over this.

Rachel - I am a huge MM lurker and I am going to be sad to see those ladies leave.

lol. Oh I know. I've been around for awhile too and it's always been a hassle. The newest way is causing boards to flock to new forums and fb groups in droves. I mean, we're talking mass exodus of entire boards.

Absolutely understandable. I appreciate you just offering to help look into the options out there.

I will try my best to start it all up if we feel like it's needed.

I can help with setup, it's the long term maintenance that's the issue. I'm wondering what all the other boards are doing, if FB is the most logical for keeping up with multiple boards, or migrating to the same host service so you only need to keep one account...

The Nest Infertility Group (though I don't know how active this group is)

The nice thing is that they are private and don't show up on your feed. The down side is there can be a loss of some privacy with the use of real names and pics (hasn't been an issue for me). The other down side is that it since it is private, we aren't likely to ever get new members, so boards can slow down or die off over time. That was the nice thing about a public board - being able to share knowledge with others in our shoes.

I have an issue with some of the annonimity on some boards. like Moms through IF, I will never be welcome there. Long story not worth getting into but I won't be. I am part of NIG but because there are some people I prefer to not talk with, I don't like giving them personal access to me - especially when I'm apparently blocked by them on fb so they can see anything I post but I have no idea if they do the same. It's sucky because I wouldn't go and post on the s/paif fb boards any more than I already do on here...and that's not often at all.

Obviously this is a response based solely on my personal situation. I hardly think it applies to everyone, lol. Eh, I guess I'll either move to a new forum, hold the fort down over here...or GBCIVF.

If we go to another board, I can probably help out with the long term maintenance. I work out of a home office, so I typically have my personal laptop out next to my work one. There are times I'm traveling for work that it may take a day or so, but that's only a few days a month.

Honestly, that may be why they are doing this. If you think about it, the knot/nest/bump doesn't get revenue stream from us being on the boards. The revenue stream comes from buying wedding favors, magazines, baby gifts etc. I can't speak for anyone, but I don't look at any of that stuff or have ever purchased anything from this site. So to them, all I am is someone using bandwidth on their servers. If you make message boards cumbersome - well, maybe there's no incentive to use their bandwidth.

It makes sense but it's funny timing since there was an article just today about how staying off facebook can put money back into your pocket. There was some study done with the amount of revenue the ad click throughs generated. I'm like you, I never click them and I haven't bought anything....BUT...there obviously are people out there that do. The more active a board, the more potential sales. It just makes me shake my head in annoyance. I can deal with format changes but when the new format doesn't even work at all at time I don't feel like wasting my time.
