for those with milk allergy prob

....how did you know if the alimentum wasnt working? i cant tell if they need neocate?

Re: for those with milk allergy prob

  • DD didn't improve, was still loosing weight, not tolerating any feeds, rash didn't improve, screamed nonstop, and spent a week in the hospital. It was pretty obvious for her. Within 48 hrs of switching to Neocate the rash and screaming were gone. Do you have a follow up with the pedi or GI, or are they not seeming to show any improvement?

  • well theyve only been on it for 24 hours.  the rash seems "better" but i feel like it becomes more prominent when i feed them it flares up a bit. they seem to have issues after they eat it....although they keep it down.  still a little stuffy.  they hadnt started to lose weight yet either....i guess i caught it early.  they just still seem irritable.  i dont know if this is true milk allergy or mspi.
  • If it were me, I'd give it 48 hours and then speak to the pedi about it. Neocate is expensive, but if it is MSPI or they are having other issues and Alimentum isn't working then it is so worth it. I literally can not explain the difference in DD, whole new child. BTW DD had food allergy testing around 5 months old but it is often too early for accurate results. That test will only show if the are allergic to the actual food, not protein intolerances. So her MSPI was made by ruling out things. She has had a few challenges now and still shows reactions to any dairy.  Hope you find something soon, it's awful to go through.
  • well right now the rash is looking 100 times better.  and they did a little better with the feedings.  so, im going to give it a couple more days unless symptoms worsen.  the poops are what im watching for now...waiting for the mucus to be gone....
