went up a diaper size and had a blowout

I'm confused. I thought blowouts were supposed to happen when you NEED to go up a size. She had one in her swing. Went up to size ones today because her NBs were getting a little tight everywhere. She was having blowouts in the backs of the leg holes with the smaller ones, and this time it was through one leg hole and up the back. I think the size 1's are a little too big in the legs and crotch area, but the smaller ones are really irritating her belly. How can I make this better? I'm using pampers swaddlers, and the huggies don't go far enough up the back for me. Suggestions?

  • Same problem here! I am using size 1 because NB are too tight. Blow out happen with both but if i keep the velcro tight on the 1's its not so bad.

  • I had a bad blow out in NB size tonight. Poop went all the way up her back! It was bad, real bad. I guess I should try size 1s.

We had our first blowout today too. She was in a pampers NB. Now we are going to only use size 1s but I think I didn't put the diaper on right anyway. The back was folded down. Oops. All over her clothes and swing. Yuck.

OP, I'd try a different brand. If neither Huggies not pampers work what about Target, Luvs, 7th Generation?

  • Have you tried the pampers that aren't swaddled? Max dry or something like that. Our baby goes right through the swaddlers, but the max dry works much better for him.

  • Make sure the ruffles around the legs are pulled out, and make a little fold at the back. I was shocked at what a difference that made in containment.

  • I make sure the ruffles are out...she just doesn't have fat enough legs, I think. I could try other brands - I just hate the idea of buying a pack of diapers (even a small pack) and not using them if they don't work. Not sure about the back, why she blew out of the size 1's. If I make them too tight, it will irritate her belly again, and if I fold them down, will that really contain it? Willing to give anything a try. Thanks!
