Body Changes - New Here

Hi everyone! I did an intro ages ago but then I didn't really get on the computer while I was on maternity. I'm back at work now :( though and ready to say hi! I'm Erika, and I have an 11 week old girl born at 37 weeks via C-Section after failed induction due to my kidneys failing. *Deep breath*.

Anyway, I'd been wearing maternity pants because my pre-pregnancy jeans were falling off. I figured my work pants would be fine because I gained 25 pounds with Evangeline, and I've lost 40. But.. my pants are SOOOOOO tight. Is it normal for your body to take forever to go back to normal, even if you've lost the weight? I feel like my belly is still huge?

  • At 11 weeks post partum, your body is still very, very different. I'm 6.5 months out and I'm below pre-pregnancy weight but my body still looks different. Things will be better for you in another two months or so, but I would expect it to take a year before things are back (or close) to how they were. Congratulations on your LO!

  • Thanks guys! It feels good to know things can still change and I'm not alone. Now I don't feel quite as much like I need an entire new wardrobe!

  • I do agree with others to give it more time, but my post pregnancy body has never really ever gotten back to where it once was. Even though I am the same weight I was pre-pregnancy clothes just fit differently. I did need a new wardrobe, but I would give it more time before deciding that for yourself.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Yes, my body definitely changed, especially after my second pregnancy.  It's very normal, and especially this soon after delivery, your body is still adjusting back to the new normal.

ETA - I'd give it more time, but also know that your body may not be exactly the same pre-pregnancy still.  It's frustrating, but I'd give it some more time.

After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!

  • Even after getting below my first pre-pg weight, my old pants didn't fit right.  I had to buy new ones.   My shape was just all different.   (the same was true of my bras!)

Post baby body issues can be rough...I have had more than one screaming match with my closet.  Hang in there!

This is me exactly! Things have shifted and I'm not sure they are ever going back. Confused

  • I los the weight pretty quickly but after twins my body is all together different. My stomach is still a little bigger as I just don't do ab workouts which probably would help. It did go down some probably 8 to 12 months later but I still have some. Also my hips are wider now and my ribcage seems wider too after carrying two babies. Your body just changes in unexpected ways.

Yes, definitely normal for your body to be differently shaped post-partum, even if you've lost the weight (and then some).  I lost the weight relatively quickly with both my girls as well but I will say that my body itself just had a different shape (esp after my 2nd pregnancy) and I'm now 15 months out and I'm not sure it will ever be the same again.  BUT, it does get better and my stomach took the longest to be "more normal" again.  Hang in there -- I figure the stomach has the most pressure and changes during pregnancy so it's normal that it takes extra time for it to re-shape.

  • I think it took like 5 months before I lost all my baby weight and my body still was really different- especially in the boob area. Now that I'm in the process of weaning (my baby just turned one), my body seems to be mostly back to normal.

Don't worry about it taking awhile! We are all not Beyonce... yikes, did anyone see her in that naked dress on ET tonight?
