Has this happened to anyone? DS smelled like the most horrible perfume yesterday after daycare. It is the most horrible old-lady-musty-rag-from-the-attic smell I have smelled in a very long time- and it's on my son!
I gave him a bath, lotioned him, and even wiped him down with baby wipes. Nothing will get rid of the smell altogether. I want my baby to smell like himself, and if I can't have that, at least to smell somewhat nice. We've never had this issue, so I wonder if one of the other teachers or director was holding him yesterday. They said he was clinging when I picked him up, which leads me to believe they handed him off to someone else at some point.
Should I say something if he continues to come home smelling like this? I don't want to make a big deal- but it's a really offensive smell!
Re: LO, Daycare, Perfume Stink
I always knew when one teacher had worked in the infant room because he smelled like her lotion - it was "tropical" smelling. Another lady reeked of smoke and that always bugged me. I would mention it too.
Sounds like your son is being well loved and held a lot if he came home smelling like someone else's perfume.
If it happens again, I would say something. If he smelt like cigarette smoke, I would say something now.
I agree w/ PP - sounds like your LO is being well-loved and held tight by someone. I wouldn't say anything about it.
(And I say this as someone's who's baby came home reeking of cheap old lady perfume on multiple occassions - and I'm super senstive to smells. Just wash your baby and be glad he's being loved.)
This exactly. I'm a daycare provider and I some children come smelling very strongly of their mother's perfume. I'm really sensitive to smells. It can go both ways! It means your child is well loved and getting lots of attention. :-) If it was cigarette smoke, I would be inclined to say something.
I would likely say something - there really should be a rule against perfumes/lotions because of the respiratory allergies out there.
That being said...ANYTIME the ILs, DH's aunt or my mom interact with my DD, we smell their "scents" on her. It's rather gross and annoying. But it always goes away with a bath.
Agree with all of this. DD is watched by a Jamaican lady who is 58 years old. DD and all her stuff smell like the lady now, but I love how much she loves DD so I'll let it go.
Relatives will be wearing perfume and hold him, then he'll stink like them all day. It drives me flippin' batty! I HATE it, I want him to smell like my sweet baby boy, not a variety of perfume.
I had to give my Mom a hard time because she was one of the main culprits. She wears Calvin Kline's Obsession which is really strong, it always rubs off on him and drives me nuts. She doesn't wear it around him anymore because I complained enough. Then there is DH's aunt. Her's isn't as strong but I still hate it because it rubs off on him.
Quit wearing your stinky perfume around my kid ppl!!
