Baby Names

How many Ava's do you know?!

I know there are lots of posts here about popular names. I am torn since Ava has been a favorite of mine for a long time and is APPARENTLY very popular.  I have a hard time since I personally do not know anyone named this but I also do not know many people with babies/kids so I am just curious- How many Ava's do YOU know?!

  • If you love Ava, then you should use it... despite its popularity. DS1 is named Jackson and while he edged out the boom by several years, we rarely encounter other Jacksons and has yet to be Jackson S. at school, camp or otherwise. With so many more names out there today, Ava will never be the next Amy or Jennifer. Good luck!

  • I know one who is 5 or 6.  No matter what people on here answer, it's a very popular name.  She will run into other Avas but I do agree that there is such a large variety of names now that it won't be like Jennifer.  Number 1 in 2012 has less births than number 1 in 1980, kwim?  If you love it, use it.

  • I know one Ava, two Eva's that are pronoounced Ay-va, and we've run into a couple of little Ava's at storytime but I'm not sure how they spell it.

zero, but i feel your concern.  we have a Jackson he was my first and we knew no other Jackson's. we named him after a family friend who had died and his last name was Jackson, who would have thought there would be so many Jackson's now.

  • None. I mentioned to my BFF that it is was one of the few names DH and I agree on, and she groaned and said she has 5 Ava's in her storytime (she is a librarian), and she had 3 in her class when she worked at an elementary school a few years ago.

According to the Social Security name list, it has been in the top 5 since 2006.

Three in a very small circle. It is the most popular baby name among people I know. One was just born this week. But I get it, because it is a very pretty name. Oh and there were two in my son's swim class out of only four girls. It's one of those if you don't mind popularity, go for it!

  • I hear that it is rising in popularity.  But, I worked in childcare for a few years recently, and have come to know about 50-75 different girls under the age of two, and none were named Ava.

    One.

  • In the 5+ years that I've been teaching preschool, we have had 6 different Ava's come and go. I also know 3 people who have named their children Ava. It's one of my favourite names, but it's off my list now that they are everywhere.
  • Two.  One is 21, the other is 18 months.
  • I only know 1 and she is 20. But I am not around many children so I guess it isn't saying much. I do love the name though!

  • My Ava Grace is 5.  I had never met another Ava or heard of any one named Ava accept Reece Witherspoon's daughter.  We wanted family names.  Ava was a great aunt.  Grace is DH's grandmother.

My Ava now has two other Ava's in her Sunday School class and 1 in her dance class.

  • 1 Ava

2 Evas/Evies (which I feel can easily be mixed up with Ava).

Just had first Communion at church today. Out of 152 kids, there was at least one Ava and one Eva (the kids would be 7-8 years old). There were way more "Maddies" on the list, though.

  • 1 IRL, her name is Avazeh nn Ava.

I know 4 Ava's that I can think of off the top of my head, and I DON'T work with children.  I also know 1 named Eva.  All five of these girls are 5 years old and younger.  I like the name, but it is waaaay to popular IMO, but if you really love it and the popularity doesn't bother you that much I say go for it!

  • My daughter is Ava and she is the only one I know. I have been a teacher for 11 years and have never encountered an Ava. I am sure in the next few years I will. I chose Ava because I love it! I am not worried that there will be too many Avas. I am sure a name becomes popular because people like it and it is beautiful. You can't go wrong! Use it if you love it and don't worry about other people's opinions or choices.
