Secondary IF

For those with recurrent losses (personal question)...

I guess this is a spin off of the post below regarding your timeframe for continuing to TTC.  I was surprised to see a couple posts with recurrent losses after a successful pregnancy.  I'm have 2 DS (17.5 months apart) and that have had 3 consecutive losses in the last 2 years while TTC #3.  We had no problems conceiving my first 2 (both within 3 months of TTC).

Just wondering, (if you don't mind me asking) are you seeing a RE? If so, what "treatment" options are you following?

I have my first RE appointment on Monday.  My OB ran very basic testing but not on specific cycle days, and everything came back "normal." Prior to my losses, my cycles were like clock work and now I O at various times in my cycle and have started spotting before AF (O around CD 20-22, spotting 5-7 days later).

Anyway, just wondering what everyone else was doing.

What's your age? Mine is age related and seeing an RE. My OB didn't refer me, I just went and was glad I did. Else I would have wasted a lot of time which is not on my side. For my specific issue, IVF is the best option.  Your RE will run a bunch of tests and hopefully figure out what's going on. Good luck!

  • The last visit I had with my OB (who is a fertility specilist, does everything but IVF) thought it might be worth our while to get a second opinion with an RE.

We haven't yet. I love my OB like a family member, and I don't feel ready to leave his office yet since we haven't *really* done much in the way of treatment. We've only been doing Femara + TI, so once I have my surgery in a few weeks we'll get more serious, up my meds and talk about IUI most likely.

I'm just scared that the RE is just going to tell me I need IVF and be done with me. We can't afford that, and since I have gotten pg 3 times on my own now, I just don't feel like I'm there yet.

From what my OB told me, the fact that I already have a healthy baby doesn't exclude me from possible miscarriages, since the most common reason is chromosomal abnormalities. That can happen just as easily on baby #1 as it can on baby #5. It's just the luck of the draw, so to speak. Complete random fluke, and they told me the chance of it happening again is low (I know that doesn't make you {or I} feel any better about it).

Seeing an RE is never a bad idea, IMO. We just aren't quite ready for that yet.

  • I will be turning 34 in late June.

My OB also didn't refer me...I decided to go after being told everything is normal and this is "bad luck." I think I'm more going to a RE for a second opinion and to see if there are any options.

  • I had 3 recurrent losses after having no issues conceiving my DD. I took it upon myself to see an RE as I felt my OB didn't seem to take it as seriously as I wanted it to be taken. I am SO glad I went to an RE. I got a diagnosis, was put on some hormones and meds, and now am 14 weeks pregnant with #2. Seeing an RE will be well worth it! Good luck and lots of sticky vibes for you!

  • I had 7 m/cs and an ectopic.  I tried everything before I went to an RE.  The RE diagnosed me with thyroid disease, a clotting disorder, we had male factor and I had a tube issue.  My RE also believed that some of our losses were related to age.  He recommended we go straight to ivf.  We didn't have the money or coverage, started with 3 iuis and then did ivf

  • I had 2 losses then DD1. I was scheduled to consult RE but got a surprise BFP that stuck. We started TTC #2 almost immediately because I was scared of more losses. That time we weren't even getting BFP. I again schedule with RE and ended up with another loss during the first month there. He believes I just have a "weak" ovulation so the eggs aren't mature enough. I did Femara and Ovidrel one cycle and got lucky. I'm not sure we'll TTC again. The entire process is really so stressful for me and hard on our marriage. I will say my OB would have kept me for months and months with no RE but I was not willing to take Clomid and go unmonitored and waste more time. I am almost 36.
