Water/sippy cup ?

When can Babies have a little water in a sippy cup? G is 6.5 months and loves my nieve's sippy cup so I bought him one and put a little cold water in it thinking he'd just suck on the spout but the little guy started drinking. I didn't let him have any more because I wasn't sure. He has a dr appt next week so I'll ask but just wanted to ask you ladies when your LO got a sippy cup.

    We started giving water when we started stage 2 solids.  I think DS was about 6.5 months adjusted.  As long as he isn't decreasing BM or formula intake in favor of water or throwing it back up I think you are fine.

    I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

    I started giving him a sippy with water at around 6 months. He didn't really get the hang of it for a few more months. I agree with PP, as long as he still gets enough BM/formula, I would let him have some.  I only gave it to DS at his highchair during meals when he was that young, I didn't leave it out for him to have whenever. That's great that your DS got the hang out of so quickly, usually it takes awhile, smart little guy!

    I believe it was around 6 months.

    Oh that's great! Thank you for the responses. I only offer it to him while MH and I eat to keep him occupied so it's definitely not replacing BM.
