Naps

Do you actually put LO down for a scheduled nap? I usually just let DD as she needs.  She will sometimes fall asleep in her bouncy, sometimes in her carrier, and usually when I take her in the car or for a walk.  I don't actually "put her down" for a nap, like we do for bed time.  Just curious what you other mamas do!

Re: Naps

  • No nap schedule/routine here yet. We loosely follow EASY (minus the Y for me since I have two other kids). She usually naps downstairs in the swing, bouncer, RnP, wherever.

  • Not when with me...however DH has a pretty good schedule. Not sure if DH made the schedule or if LO taught him. I know that DH actually will wake up LO to eat and not let him sleep to keep him on schedule.

  • No schedule, but I do purposely put her down for naps because she won't just fall asleep on her own without us helping her... so whenever she wakes up she eats, then we play with her and carry her around until she starts getting cranky, then I'll walk or rock her down to sleep. Repeat. :)

  • No schedule. I know he pretty much naps an hour or so after he eats. I nap him on his belly on the couch, in his swing, or in the car if we're out on the go. Also he'll sleep on me too if ds1 is napping and I'll sleep too :)

  • We don't do scheduled either.  We do Sleep, Activity, Eat.  She always falls asleep while getting burped so we can't do the activity after, haha.  We just put her down once she starts yawning or dozing off.

  • I have a toddler who takes a two hour nap every single day.  That is the only nap I schedule.  I do put DS down for a morning nap upstairs but I do that on his schedule.  It seems to be about 10ish.  I always put him down for a nap during DDs afternoon nap so that I have at least an hour to myself.  That nap is around 1ish (give or take an hour).  One of those naps of his will generally be a long stretch of about 2 hours.  It's nice when its concurrent with her long one Wink

We're still following cues, but around 8 weeks with DS, we started writing down his pattern- when did he nap, when did he wake, when did he eat,etc...  This helped us figure his schedule out and try to anticipate (though he would change it up on you as soon as you had it refined)

I'm trying my best to get this right! DD naps from around 11am-1pm, and I try my best to get DS to sleep somewhere during her 2 hour nap so that I can get a break. But I also don't have a routine with DS yet, just follow his tired cues. He has a very predictable night routine, but his daytime naps are very irregular and unpredictable. I'll definitely put him on EASY later on.

  • I guess I am the only one with a schedule!  I firmly believe in them and gives the child something reliable.  Every day DS naps in his bassinet upstairs from 11:30-2.  Then after that he comes back downstairs with us and will catnap but for only a few minutes here and there.  I've done this with all my children.  Next week we are moving to the crib @ 6 weeks!  Starting with naps.

Nope, no schedule.  Not even at daycare.  Personally, I don't see why a schedule is a big deal at this point anyways.  I do try to get LO in bed at a certain time each night and he gets up at the same time because he goes to daycare, but during the day, we just go with the flow.
