I hate to see kids drinking cows milk. (Breast milk is totally fine) It?s so bad for them, and there are so many health issues that can happen from drinking milk, it makes me cringe to see! But they are not my kids so I never say anything. I just cringe in silence, and vow to never give my kids milk...

I love love milk and Vitamin D all the way it only taste good with all the fats and stuff in it. . . I might go have some now!   People have only been drinking it for centuries . . . I am not sure how they survived ahhhhhhhhhhhhh the horror

People have not been drinking it that long, and the US is only one of the very few countries that do. I am not saying to stop drinking it if you dont want to, just that, thats the way I feel... Take it or leave it!

I am pretty sure thousands of years is kind of long . . . and it actually orginated in Europe not the US and there are a ton more benefits from drinking milk than the risks . . . I am not Flaming you I just LOVE milk!

Oh WOW! Its FLAME FREE! If you dont agree that fine, but no need to call me ignorant! I was saying nothing about you or your child... I have done tone of research on it too, and people are not susposed to drink cow milk! If you have found something different that fine! Raise your family your way I will raise mine my way....

Mine: I think that anyone who thinks that FFFC is really flame free are complete dumbasses... that goes for people who make blanket statements as well.

Kind of brutal dont you think? I am not a dumb ass, and I see things on here all the time that dont get flamed... Why me?

Read the bolded. You got flamed because your 'confession' was a blanket statement.

Also, choosing to not give your child milk is nothing like choosing to vaccinate your child. I could care less if your kid doesn't drink milk, that is in no way going to effect my child... not vaccinating on the other hand can have dangerous consequences for everyone.

I agree about the vaccinating thing, and I did not mean to sound so blanket.... I should have reworded...

    Re: Cow's Milk

It all depends on the source.  I'm good with giving my son horomone free milk also, after doing a lot if research on it.

Just purely out of curiousity what do you give or plan to give to your kids to supplement the vitamins and calories they would received from cow's milk?

Actually there is nothing in Milk that you can?t get from other sources. And the calcium in milk (most popular argument for milk for kids) is hard for our bodies to absorb, and we don?t get the amount that is advertised we do. We drink soy milk and eat other fruits and veggies. Drinking milk can actually cause milk allergies making it hard to eat any dairy like cheese or yogurt...

I am not saying everyone has to conform to my way of thinking but that?s what we believe based on our research. It?s no different than parents who choose not to vaccinate. Each person has their own research/beliefs/opinions. This is the way we feel...

FYI Soy can also lead to allergies and depending on what it is sweete with it can actually inhibit kids bodies from absorbing calicum, zinc and iron.  Again it depends on what sources you are reading.  You have to look from all angles not just the sources that already support your position.  Most pedis reccomend almond milk over soy for the reasons I've listed above.

Exactly because of the extra estrogen like component in it that has been linked to various changes in tissues in young boys, ie. in some cases the development of man-boobs.

OP: My point is not to pick on you, it is just to say that if you're going to take a strong stand on something you believe in you need to be able to see all sides and not just research specifically to your opinion.  If you type into google "Why Cow's milk is terrible for kids" you're going to get different info than i you type "benefits of cow's milk". That's all my point is here, you need to be well rounded and make an educated decision based on what you find.

DS drinks almond milk only, but that's because he has a bad reaction to cow's milk. Otherwise he'd be drinking cow's milk right along side me everyday.

  • I confess that I personally don't care what you give your kid to drink, milk, soy, rum, whatever. Just don't make a bold statement based on one sided information.  Nothing irks me more than a highly motivated passionate half-knowledgable person. You need to know and understand all sides to make a good decision.  What's the quote ?  "Beware of false knowledge.  It is more dangerous than ignorance" - George Bernard Shaw

You should NOT give your child soy. It is dangerous for young children.

I'm not really sure where you're reading that you dont get all the nutrients in milk (unless you're referencing skim milk). That milk fat aids in absorption of the nutrients.

If you can get a toddler (who generally is an incredibly picky creature who doesn't always have the largest diet) the amount of fat/vitamin D/vitamin A/calcium without the use of milk (or milk based products), more power to you. It would take a whole ton of broccoli to get the amount of calcium a toddler is going to get from 18-24oz of milk a day.

Yep! Can contribute to hormone imbalances. One of the best things I did to help reduce my PCOS was to cut soy out of my diet as much as possible. Organic dairy would have been a good idea too. Honestly, I probably need to do that anyway. IMHO there's way more grossness in soy products than in milk products. And i LOOOOOOVE my milk.

  • Sex is pretty much foreign now.  Last Saturday I was feeling really good (nausea-wise) so I hopped in the shower with DH and gave him a bj.  After that he happily came with me to the garden center and never complained about my two full carts.  He went with me to the furniture store to look at nursery furniture.  He came along on my Target trip to buy some junk.  It was A-MAZING!  He was happy the entire day.  Now I'm thinking of where I need to go this weekend!  I know, it's awful....

Love! LOL. This completely cracks me up. I admit there are days when I think, "If I just gave it up right now, could I convince DH that going out for breakfast is legit?" Sex is his happy button. (True for all men? not sure.)

Soy is one of the top allergens right along with nuts and wheat. If drinking milk causes milk allergies, then drinking soy can cause soy allergies. Also, drinking soy milk started becoming more popular in the United States when there was an overproduction of soy beans. Conveniently, that's when all of its "health benefits" started being announced.

Soy is generally heavily processed from soy beans through the use of varying manufacture systems, which is different from the fermentation of soy beans (how most Asian countries consume soy). Unfermented soy (which is the soy generally sold in the U.S) has a high amount of phytic acid which can lead to lower absorption of certain vitamins and minerals. It has the ability to bind proteins and starch which blocks the uptake of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. And this acid is not neutralized by ordinary methods like soaking or cooking.

I cringe when I see husbands and wives talk to each other via facebook. Like "Big thanks to (tag husband's name) for taking over bath duty for the girls tonight and giving me a break. You're the best hubby ever!" You live in the same damn house. Just tell him thank you to his face, and stop trying to live this perfect marriage through facebook, because everyone knows you're miserable IRL.

    And another:

I squeeze a stress ball at my desk when I hear my two 60 year old co-workers talk about "Dancing With The Stars". They both ask me every week if I watch it and my answer is always "No", and not a polite one, and then they go on to tell me all about it. I personally think it's one of the dumbest f-ing shows on TV, but I watch "Khloe & Lamar", so I'm the last person who should be judging anyone's choices about what they watch on TV. But the difference is that I don't come into work all "OMG, I feel so bad for Khloe and this pressure on her to have a baby!" No. I keep my trashy TV viewing to myself and I don't try to engage people in a 30 minute conversation about a show they don't even watch. Ugh.

i concur, i hate reality TV where people get voted off but i love bethenny ever after

I think it's ok to wear the same socks two days in a row.  Especially if they're black socks.  But three days it totally unacceptable.  I have standards.

Do you leave them on for 3 days straight or take off and put them back on?  Once you put socks on you need to wash before you can put back on again.  They lose their stretch.  For example if you go swimming you need to bring a new pair to put on after.

you wear socks when you swim? Huh?
