Gripe water?

Has anyone tried gripe water for their fussy baby?  We already switched formulas and started using mylicon drops but we haven't noticed much relief.  The pediatrician said we need to stick with formula for a week before trying something else.  At this point I'm willing to try anything.  For those that have tried gripe water do you use it before or after feeding?

Thanks!

Re: Gripe water?

  • I'm curious about the answers as we just started gripe water today.  DS2 gets terrible gas & writhes & makes billygoat noises all day.  I've been giving him gas drops (Infacol - like Mylicon) and they don't seem to do much.  I gave the gripe water after the feed, as it seemed like a big dose and I didn't want it to fill him up... (crazy?!)

  • We Tried gripe water tonight and I gave half a dose (it seemed like so much) after a feed and she promptly spit up all over me- I then read online to give before a feed or 30 min after so we'll be trying again tomorrow

  • It is a God send for me you only need a little like less than a shot...like a teaspoon full. he loves it and it ALWAYS makes him stop crying! GL

The Colic Calm (which is gripe water, very black gripe water) says giving a full dose after eating may cause spit up so I give it before. Spitting up black kind of stains everything. We've seen a big difference in overnight sleep recently, I don't know if it's the CC finally working or just because his system is maturing, before he grunted and strained all night and woke himself up.

  • We use it occasionally. Last night DD was restless and fussy, at first I thought she was over tired, but then she was screaming for about 45 minutes, so I finally gave her the gripe water. It took about 20 minutes before she calmed down, but then she passed a ton of gas. AND slept 4 hours straight after! It was given after a feeding.

  • i use the mylicon drops... seem to be working, but can you use the gripe water and the mylicon drops at the same time? or only one or the other?

I used this with my baby girl a few days ago.  She had been fussing for four hours and we didn't know what was wrong.  My mom came in and saw how she was and realized that she had gas.  She went out and got Little Tummy's for us.  Since she is still so young, we only have her 1/4 tsp.  The second I put her on my shoulder to burp, she let out a big burp and passed gas and was totally fine after that.  Before this, I kept trying to feed her thinking that is what was wrong.  But after the drops she slept for a few hours and then fed again with no problems.

  • If you use Colic Calm gripe water, you shouldn't need to use the mylicon drops as well since Colic Calm helps with gas. (it also helps with reflux and teething, and of course, colic). I noticed that the Colic Calm worked WAY better than the drops too.

Here's an article on how it works with gas:

I found this article on Colic Calm's blog to be helpful on removing the stains--it works for me!

We started doing 1/2 a dose of Mothers Bliss Gripe water 3 days ago when she's super fussy (from gas) , it really has helped a lot and we aren't even doing the whole dose

good point on the over night sleep. Since we started 2 nights ago she's slept a 5 hour stretch both nights! :cheers!:
