Motrin/Ibuprofen

Morning ladies! Hope everyone's week is going by fast!

I have a question regarding the use of ibuprofen during a medicated cycle. I get horrible headaches. They started when I was pg with DD and while they aren't as frequent now (thank goodness), they are still just as intense. To the point of making me sick to my stomach/dizzy etc. I know that Ibuprofen can effect uterine lining, but is that only if it's used regularly? It's literally the only thing that gives me any relief, otherwise the headaches usually last for 36-48 hours.

Any info you have is appreciated! Thanks!  :)

Also: I'm on CD9 in a clomid cycle.

Re: Motrin/Ibuprofen

  • My RE said the only time I can take it is during my period. I also am a person who Tylenol doesn't work for and it's been really hard.

  • Ditto. Tylenol only; no ibuprophen no asprin, which sucks because when I get really bad headaches I take BC Powder.

Sorry and hope you feel better soon.

  • Ok ladies, i'm starting my first cycle of clomid on sunday...so you're saying I'm not supposed to take any meds but Tylenol this month? I just want to be sure because i'm an ibuprophen taker also!!  I know this may be crazy, but it's still ok to take my prenatal right?

Yes, it's ok to take your prenatal. Ibuprofen can decrease your uterine lining. Which would make it hard for an egg to implant.

Thanks ladies! That's what I thought (not what I hoped but oh well). :)

What does your RE say? I was told to stop taking Advil no matter what, not because I had a medicated cycle.

Not going to a RE, just an ob.  He didn't really tell me not to take anything. I knew not to take advil during pregnancy, but didn't realize I shouldn't be taking it at all while ttc

  • My RE said no ibuprofen/Advil/NSAIDs ever.  Period.  Regardless of where I was in my cycle.  I was taking Aleve daily to manage chronic arthritis but even so, this was just in their standard information and then reiterated to me because of my personal intake.  According to him and his nurse (and pub med articles) there is a correlation between IF and ibuprofen.  However, during medicated cycles if I had a migraine I could take imitrex, which was my standard migraine med.  The only medicated cycles I had migraines with were my clomid cycles.  As an aside, while I did my clomid cycles (2) with an OB, I'd be wary of doing that again because there is so much that even a "specialist" OB doesn't know or do in terms of monitoring and clomid does have a lifetime limit.

  • My doctor said Advil is a no-no. Tylenol is okay.

  • Wow...I had no idea Ibuprofen could cause problems ttc. I take a lot of it for migraines because the migraine-specific drugs tend to cause bad reactions for me. Very good info to know..thanks for sharing!
