Luteal phase

What are the treatment options for a luteal phase defect besides progesterone? What hormones are involved/necessary for luteal phase to "run" correctly?

Re: Luteal phase

  • I just had a long conversation with my RE about it.  He said there is debate as to even if there is Luteal Phase Defect.  He believes that does exist and that Progesterone is the way to treat it.

  • I've only heard of progesterone and possibly B6.

  • I have a LPD (7-9 days). I've been doing a lot of research on it, & it seems that it can be caused by 2 things. One, a progesterone deficiency after ovulation. Two, a problem with the beginning of your cycle. Say, for example, my egg is ready to go on CD14, but mu surge doesn't happen until CD17-18. The egg would be too "old" at that point to be useful. I believe that is my issue, as 3 cycles on Prometrium has only extended my LP by one day. I have seen girls on the 3T board who have done Clomid, a trigger, then Prometrium after O is confirmed. I hope that helps!

  • I had a 11 day LP before starting Clomid. The RE said Clomid is prescribed because it makes the follicle/egg stronger and therefore would hopefully make a stronger corpus luteum, which would then keep progesterone levels up.

My first Clomid cycle my LP went to 13 days. This past one it was 12. So it did help. I tried B6 about 6-7 months ago and it did nothing for me, but I've heard that it works for others. But my problem seems to be in the follicular phase as well, because my body gets ready to ovulate with a good lining and good size follicles but I don't get the LH surge until too late. So this month will be Clomid+Ovidrel+TI to try to resolve that.
