Game of Thrones holds zero appeal to me. I hate how HBO puts random nakedness in there just because, well, they're HBO. So many of the scenes in just the first half of the first episode would be so much better if it weren't for all of the random naked women there just for shock value and T&A. I have no idea what the story is about except there's some zombie things running around, and the people in this time REALLY liked to have sex. A lot.
DH, of course, is completely enthralled. LOL
Re: I may get banned for this...
This made me LOL. I don't watch it, but I guess there's incest too? Gross.
DH and I used to watch the Tudors. We took the 2nd season DVD's to the hospital when we had DD, figured we could watch it while nursing and trying to rest...which was all well and good until a nurse walked in during a raunchy sex scene! Note to self: don't bring HBO dvd's to the hospital!
Oh is there actual incest? Gross. The blonde siblings were kinda freaking me out. The brother was way too concerned about his sister's "womanly body" and such. I'm assuming that's who it is. Ick.
I've never seen the Tudors, but I've heard good things. I just don't like HBO because of all the shock value T&A and raunchy sex. I mean, raunchy sex is one thing, but they go pretty far with it, IMO. True Blood and Spartacus are/were really bad about it, IMO.

I haven't read the books either. Did you watch the show at all? I wonder if the books were less raunchy than the show.

Haven't been on in awhile, but had to say, the books have sex, but it's more implied and not so overt. The show is raunchy, but it sounds like you're watching season one right now. Season two has way less sex. The story is awesome and DH and I watch it every week!
Beware if you're watching the first season: there's like a 4 minute lesbian scene in one of the episodes. That was a bit much!
The show is okayyyy for me. I watch it with SO because he likes it. I think the little midget guy is funny. There's a little too much random boob-iness for me though.
This! These books are amazing! I'm reading A Feast for Crows right now and can't put it down. I'm sad there's only one more to go after this......I don't want to be done
I've read all the books and LOVE them...the show is meh. I really really don't like how they've changed so many things (Theon's sister's name, anyone?!?! Why?!). I also feel like if you haven't read the books, the show is really difficult to follow--I know DH is constantly asking me what's going on because there are so many characters. And like pps have said, in the books there's not as much overt sex/raunchiness, although there is violence/rape/etc. Did anyone see that SNL skit about Game of Thrones? It gives an explanation for the raunchiness of the show

I LOVE Game of Thrones! The books are great and if you get into it, the story is actually really good! As pp said, there is a lot of sex in the book but it's more implied than played out.
It's a great series!

This is exactly us! My DH loved the books so we watch the series together. I love the show but haven't read any of the books. I don't find the nudity offensive, i guess i enjoy the story line enough to overlook it
I have read the books, which are amazing. I also really enjoy the show.
I guess I am in the minority in liking (ok, loving) gratuitous sex and violence. Woot!
I think they changed her name because it was too close to Osha (Asha).
It doesn't honestly bother me that much.
I agree I read the books awhile ago and the show is pretty good at matching considering other adaptations have fallen so short. From book to tv. I think they did a good job considering how big of an undertaking these books are. And they have plenty of sex and yes incest too. But it is all fiction.
I adore the books. I love the TV show. But yeah the gratuitous sex is kind of a turn off (no pun intended.) Actually it's the m/m scenes that gross me out more than anything else. In the book, the m/m relationship was implied. Of course HBO puts it way out there and you get a 5 minute dude/dude love scene. Uncomfortable...
As far as the story goes though, it's great.
THIS! I'll take gratuitous sex and violence with amazing story lines and acting over some stupid housewives, 16 year old pregnant girls and drunken Jersery Shore idiots.
Plus I really like boobies. That is all :P
Boooooobies! LOL I honestly don't mind some nudity. SOME nudity. But HBO just gets obnoxious with it.

I love the books. So far the second season has had at least 3 sex scenes that weren't in the book which I find annoying but I'm still enjoying the show.
I thought this was pretty funny, although I wouldn't insult Daenrys like that and Al Gore is nowhere near as awesome as Ned Stark https://warmingglow.uproxx.com/2012/04/and-now-american-politicians-and-stephen-colbert-as-game-of-thrones-characters
I did watch the first few episodes, but I admit, I was a little tipsy at the time (this was many moons ago, long before I was pregnant). I didn't read the books, but my husband remarked that sex scenes in the book that were fleeting were drawn out on the show. I'm not terribly surprised by that...I was put off by the rape scenes between a couple of characters, which is weird since I watch Law and Order: SVU all the time... *shrug*
It just annoys me when shows/movies/etc change small details like that for no real reason--it's not integral to the plot, but it just seems unnecessary...I personally don't think that Osha and Asha sound that much alike. I guess I"m a purist--I like things to stay as close to the original as possible.
