Vent

Totally off topic but I just saw a "friends" FB status about what to say to get out of jury duty.  Sorry - but it p!sses me off to no end when people complain about jury duty.  F'ing grow up!  It's part of being an American, it's part of our justice system.

Yes, sometimes you get picked at horrible times, yes sometimes it can take forever to find out if they're even going to keep you, yes, I get there are inconveniences but SO the F what?

The way I view it - you're making your own bed.  Hopefully YOU will never need a jury and if you do, I hope everyone who may lean towards your verdict will come up with every excuse in the book to avoid your trial.

End vent.  Sorry - it just makes my blood boil to hear about people trying to dodge their duty.

  • I've never yet been called, but I do completely agree with you. It's one small thing that we have to do in life. Big deal.

  • Sorry but I am one of those people who complain about jury duty. I have been called four times so far and I am only 22. Every time I have been called it was during the school year and I personally hate missing class. All four times I sat around for about 4 hours and was dismissed but I missed class anyway. I feel uncomfortable in the county courthouse too. It's all grubby and everyone seems so stressed. It's just not how I would rather spend my day but that doesn't mean I will avoid it or post Facebook statuses whining.

  • I have been called twice now, and the first time I was dismissed halfway through the day.

I was actually called again a few months ago, to come in when I was going to be about 11 weeks.  I started getting horrible m/s around 5 1/2 weeks, so I requested to be excused this time for that reason.  I wasn't sure if I was still going to be sick, and the last place I would want to be is serving on a jury while puking all the time.  I'm also in grad school, so I was excused for those two reasons.

Normally I wouldn't mind, but there was no way I would have been in the right frame of mind.

  • I imagine the selection process works different in various counties / states.  I've been called only twice in one county and they send you a big red letter saying failure to comply will result in prosecution.  Then they give you a number to call, on it is a recorded message telling you what time to call back so you can listen to another message.  Each time I did this, sometimes for days, it resulted in the final message saying something along the lines of "Thank you but your services won't be needed at this time."

First time I got the letter I was 19 and actually a bit excited at the prospect of serving.  Oh well.

I agree, Manx. It annoys me to no end. Like the people who refuse to vote and then biitch about the elected official for the next 4 years. Uh, you had your chance. stfu.

This is another thing that makes me angry...haha!

  • Call me judgemental, but I wouldn't mind sitting on a jury!  Wink
