Sarabelle/Sarabel

An elderly relative of mine named Sarabelle recently passed away, which got me thinking. While the name follows the Isabelle/Anabelle/Mirabelle trend, it stands to reason Sarabelle/Sarabel is ripe for a comeback. So, I figured that I'd pass it along knowing that the board loves me an old lady name! Yay, nay or meh? (FWIW, it's 100% nms.)

I think the combo works, but as a Sarah myself, it seems overly cutesy and smooshy. I think just Sarah is so much nicer! (But I really have never been a fan of "belle" names either).

I'm a Sarah, but when I was little (and on random occasions still) my family called me Sarah-Belle. I didn't/don't mind it as a nickname, but as an actual name, it just feels smooshed & cutesy to me.

Why not Sarah Belle (using it as a FN/MN)? I think it looks better, you don't have to worry about it being a cutesy name when she is older.

This is a great idea. I agree with others that is sounds like a cutesy smoosh name as is.

I'm a Sara, and my dad has always called me Sarabelle. I love it.

Sarah Belle would be much more up my alley, personally. I know an Ava Belle and always thought it was a cute name. Regardless, my cousin Sarabelle lived into her 90s and the name worked for her -- proof that it could age well!

I would spell it Sarabel or just Sarah Belle not as a fn and mn but double fn.

I agree. It's pretty as a first and middle. I don't like it smooshed together.

I'd argue that it can age well. My cousin, Sarabelle, lived into her 90s and the name never sounded cutesy on her. It had more of a Southern feel. Maybe b/c it was pronounced Sarabel, not Sarah Belle.

I love it, but I'm not American (in origin) and I live in the South (deep South) so my opinion will always be different than many others.

I would name our baby Sarabelle/Sarabel if it weren't for my husband who doesn't like it

Nah, I stand by my orginal statement. I'm from the south, so the "southern feel" doesn't fly. If you know someone with that name, it probably wouldn't sound that way because of the familiarity. But to a stranger, it totally would.
