Re: Help! Blowouts and Diapers!

  • No advice, but I just want to tell you, that I'm in the same boat and I was actually going to post about this. Our blowouts happen at the waist and it moves up on DD's back.Once I had to cut her out of her onesie.

I just switched to a size 3 diaper a few days ago (she's 15lbs, size 3 diaper starts at 16lbs) and waiting to see what happens. The diaper is big on her, but so far so good... I also use Pampers Swaddlers.

I have once tried Huggies, but I did not like it all.

  • The weight is a suggestion based on averages. Go ahead an move up a size in the swaddlers. The design/material of the tabs makes them able to overlap so you can pull them tighter and they will still stay put.

They increase in size AND absorbancy as they go up.

  • We are having the same issue with DD... she's also currently in 2's, but we are going to move up to the size 3 Swaddlers as soon as she finishes the open bag we have. I've found that as soon as she was within 2-3 lbs of the "limit" Swaddlers have been too small for her.

  • We were having the same problem mostly out the top and up the back, we finished up our pack of 2s last night so on to 3s we go, eeeek he's so big! BTW we used Pampers Swadlers for N and 1s but with 2s switched to Pampers Baby Dry and have had no issues. They don't seem to be as thick but still absorb (bonus), the downside is they don't have a pee indicator strip, but I can always tell just by touching it at this point. We switched on accident (I didn't realize what I bought the first time), but when we needed more they were about 4cents less per diaper and had worked fine and the strip wasn't worth it for 4cents for us anyway. You might wanto give them a try.
  • I also wanted to add make sure that if she's in a onies shirt that it's not to tight with the snaps as that would increase blow outs

  • DD was peeing up the back when we went up a size. Make sure to fasten tight and "tuck" in the diaper into their little leg fold. We have a random pack of Huggies snug and dry from my shower and they are working well.

  • You just explained Brooke perfectly. That girl poops so much it is crazy. We are using pampers swaddlers newborn  with both of them. They work great.

We're having blowouts galore! It goes straight up his back. We're using pampers baby dry size 1. I tried a size 2 but it was huge on him. I guess I'll just have to deal with it until we can move up a size. Interesting about the tight fitting onsies, I'll have to pay attention if that's contributing to the problem. Thanks!

  • It's not much help with your disposables, but I will say that I have very few leaks with cloth diapers.  I'd recommend them to anyone wanting to avoid blowouts (or wanting to spend less money overall on diapering).  Just wanted to point out that option as noone has mentioned it yet.

I would love to CD but unfortunately I work and no day cares near me or work will take babies who use CDs.

That stinks! I use CDs and we've had some leaks from time to time, but never blowouts, and DS poops ALL OF THE TIME! Did you happen to show daycares any modern cloth diapers? Lots of people still think flats, pins and plastic pants and have no idea that CDs are just as easy to take on and off as disposable diapers. It's no extra work for the daycare and by using them, you are actually helping them reduce the amount of trash they have to deal with!

  • Ditto on the too tight onesies making it worse. We're going to move to 6-9 month set this week and I'm hoping that will help... but some kids just have explosive poops. I'm to the point where I know if he's overdue I don't bother to go out till he's done cause it always requires a bath and washing whatever he was sitting in.

  • We use Huggies snug N dry and have never had a blowout or leak. However with Pampers we always had leaks. DD is also in a size 2.
