Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Not sure what to do with DD tonight.

As I type, DD is sitting in her bouncy chair and I am rocking her with my foot.  She's supposed to be upstairs in her crib.  She is so congested though, I hate to lay her down.  Even sitting in her bouncy chair she sounds horrible.  We've had the humidifier on with the Vicks inhalant stuff for 4 nights now and it doesn't seem to make a difference.  Sucking out her nose is torture for her and nothing comes out anyhow.  I'm really not sure what to do with her tonight.

Re: Not sure what to do with DD tonight.

  • can you elevate her crib (we currently have 2 books under 2 feet of DD's crib to keep her head elevated to help her stuffy nose)? or have her sleep in a swing?

did you try saline spray before using the nose sucker thing? or you could take her into the bathroom and run a hot shower for the steam. I know that's very short lived though..

  • Have you tried flushing her nose w/ saline solution to clear her sinuses out & then using something like baby vicks?

  • I second the suggestion on elevating her crib.  If that doesn't work, would she sleep in her bouncy seat?
  • I have not tried the saline stuff.  I was really hoping to avoid it because she seems fine all day.  I guess I am off to the store again tomorrow.  I swear by the end of cold and flu season I should finally have everything I need to take care of a sick baby.  I think tonight she is going to sleep in her bouncy chair if she will let me strap her in.

  • Another way you can elevate the mattress is by putting a folded towel under one side of it.
  • Get a Nose Frida.  I would put DD in the bathroom and run the shower to get it all steamy and leave her in there for 15 minutes then I would use the Nose Frida.  I also used breastmilk as saline solution.  It is less harsh.
