We had one IVF/ICSI cycle that resulted in our twins and had two six day blasts frozen. We had 11 eggs retrieved. We are planning a natural FET either this or next month, very excited/nervous about that. DH says no more treatments after this so if this does not work we are done We agreed before starting IVF that any frozen embies would get a chance of implanting.

We limited fert to 5 eggs b/c we did not want any leftover embryos. We have 16 frozen eggs. I did not see the article - I need to get in the fb group - but I have read that there are currently over 400,000 frozen embryos. I don't think patients are informed enough about the what ifs - I see a lot of posts on here about those having a hard time deciding what to do. Yes they signed consent forms but I think a lot of people are told that you are unlikely to have any to freeze. I have seen numerous posts of people having over 10 to freeze.
I agree with this. Patients aren't informed enough PRIOR to creating and having embryos frozen that it may end up being emotionally heartwrenching to then have to make a decision as to what will happen to them.
I really hope for the day where the technology to freeze just eggs is good enough that we don't need to create so many embryos that may never be used as a sort of insurance policy for couples.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
If we decide we want more kids, we will do eSET. Given that 6 embryos = 2 babies so far, I don't think we'll have a lot of embryos left over if we decide we want another, given it might take a few tries, and I think some of them were frozen in the same straws, but I'm not exactly sure. Either way, we plan to donate the remaining embryos to science.
After 3 years, 3 losses, and 3 IVF's, our little girls have arrived!
We have 16 and it is a huge source of stress for me. I am no longer a practicing Catholic (and the whole process is "immoral" not just the freezing and discarding) but morally I feel terrible to not give them all a chance at life (even though I know all won't' thaw) but there is no way we could afford to give them all a chance, just not possible nor do I want more than 5 children. I never imagined we'd have 16 excellent quality embryo's after having only 1 last time
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
I am not Catholic, but I have to say, as an outsider, the Catholic church has lost all integrity and status in claiming a right as a steward and protector of the sanctity of life after the huge and institutionalized, global cover up of pedophilia within its leadership.
Perhaps it was left out of the article, but I found it ironic that it was the female teacher who was called an immoral sinner, but what of her husband? And why in the world would they also summon her father?

I've never had a frozen embryo, ever. I underwent two DE cycles so its not like there was a response issue; I just didn't have any make it to freeze. So I don't consider the IVF always = discarded embryos argument.

Re: Unscientific clicky poll - How many frozen embies do you have left

This Cluttered Life

IVF Cycle #1: 24 retrieved, 6 blasts, transferred 2, 4 frozen, BFN
FET #1: thawed 4 due to lab mistake, transferred 2, c/p
IVF Cycle #2: 36 retrieved, 9 blasts, transferred 2, 7 frozen, twins
