1st Trimester

Gestional Sac Shape...Normal?

Hi girls :) I had my 2nd ultrasound done on Monday at 6w6d and we were able to see and hear the heartbeat...it was amazing :)

DH and I were both on Cloud 9, and the ultrasound tech told us that everything looked great. This was at my RE's office, and they even released me to my OB that day.

Once I got home, I compared my first ultrasound from 5w3d to this most current one, and couldn't help but notice the different shape my Gestational Sac now has. I Googled it (always a bad idea) and found conflicting information.

I feel like my RE would have said something about it if they were concerned, but they didn't.

My GS is shaped like a banana...and pretty elongated. Here is a picture:

Should I be concerned? Have any of you had a similar experience?

Thanks so much :)

  • It may have had to do with the way the ultrasound tech had the probe positioned. This looks more like a sagittal view and the other picture may have been more transverse. If neither commented on it, I would think it's ok. And darn Google! Hope all is well.

  • I am a Sonographer... It looks perfectly normal to me... Keep in mind that your uterus is already a little stretched from your first pregnancy so it "expands" easier the 2nd time around... You might even find yourself showing sooner! Congrats!

Thats a very good point also!! Agree sagittal = long view, transverse= short
