Change in poop around 4 months?

DS's poop seems to have changed recently. He is entirely BF.

Previously it was more runny and more of a brownish yellow. He was going at least every day.

Now he is going every few days (went 6 days last week). The poop is more of a yellowish brown (so more on the brown side) and is more of a runny peanut butter (smooth - not chunky!) consistency (so thicker). He is still having tons of farts.

Does this sound normal? The nurse at the pediatrician's office told me that their poop changes around this time, but I haven't seen/heard/ready anything about that.

  • I can't remember exactly when it happened for DD, but I do think it's normal.  She definitely changed before we gave solids at 6 months.  There was a point when she was 5 months old where she went 8 days between poops, but was totally fine (no constipation or anything).  Now she's a few days away from being a year old and likes to poop multiple times a day again - it's always changing!

  • My LO is 5 month old and about a week ago she went 6 days with no poop when previously she would go every day or every other day. And now her poop is exactly the consistency you described and also farts a lot. I called the pedi when she got to the 5th day of no poop and they told me it's completely normal for bowel patterns to change.
