Division of Labor - Cat Vomit (NBR)

So, my husband and I have this cat that's about 13 and diabetic.  She throws up at least once a week and it really sucks.  We came up with this division of labor (he came up with it, actually) that he would clean it up if she puked on the tile and I would clean it up if she puked on the carpet.  Obviously, cleaning the carpet is harder, but I'll take what I can get.

Earlier today, we were both in the kitchen and I heard the unmistakable sound of our cat puking.  I ran over to see where she was and SCORE! she was on the tile.  That was the highlight of my day.

I'm a sad, sad person.  =)

  • lol. I have a 13 year old cat as well well I have 2 13 year old cats and the one Max pukes all the time. My husband has been good at cleaning it up lately but I normally get it.

  • LMAO, that's awesome:)  I swear I always get stuck with the puke
  • Hahaha, one of our cats has a puking issue too, so I completely understand! We have one of those bissell spot bot cleaners that has been a god-send to our carpets! Yeah, you have to pick up the bulk of it first of course, but after that, you let the machine clean up the carpet.

P.s. sounds sick, but our second cat will sometimes do the main cleaning if we're not quick enough, always grosses me out, but sometimes I'm secretly thankful, haha

Our dog used to handle the 'first run' at the vomit, but she's been avoiding it lately for some reason.  I always pretended to be grossed out by it, but really was so glad when she did it.  =)

  • Our dog only pukes either when he gets carsick when *I* take him somewhere, or when I am the only one home.  Never when DH is home with him.  Grrr.

  • LOL. I clean up almost all the cat puke unless DH is the only one home when it happens. I celebrate when the cat pukes on the hardwoods, not one of our nice rugs. The house is probably 85% wood, and yet he pukes on the rug/carpet most of the time. I am convinced it is because he can get more gripping power with his claws when hurling.

  • Love this... it really is awesome not having to clean it up. We have 3, and they all seem to take turns puking. We clean up cat vomit at least 5 times per week, maybe more. And they only ever puke on the carpet - the kitchen floor must be too uncomfortable or something when their little bodies go flying backward to accommodate the grossness they leave behind.

Sometimes I am quick enough to catch them because I can hear them start going, and I can get a paper towel in front in time (if they don't run away when I come over, which the little one does, sigh). DH never hears it, and always manages to look surprised when I suddenly jump off the couch and run for the paper towels. We high five after successful catches.

The little one has, a couple times, tried to puke off the chair. Which would also mean on the chair. I have no regrets in whacking her little backside so she jumps down and pukes on the carpet. I don't want her to think it's ok to do that when we're not home! That would be awful!

  • I had an Australian Shepherd who puked on the tile......such a smart dog! Must have been b/c every time I heard that pre-puke noise I would come running, grab her by the collar and drag her on the tile so it would be easier to clean up :)
  • NO, your not alone. I have two cats that one does this numberous times a week. My DH and I just say here we go again and one of us have to clean it.

Cleaning the cat litter is all my DH, these days but I know after these cats live out there life, Im not getting anymore cats.

If I'm fast enough, I can grab my cat and relocate her to tile, but there have been a couple of times when I grabbed her right in the middle of the process and she left a...trail the whole way.  <shudder>  That's the worst!

  • We have 3 fur babies and one of them gets hairballs really bad after we haven't gotten him groomed for a while. He always seems to hit the carpet even though 90% of our house is hardwood floor. Its so annoying. I feel terrible for him but really? I do the happy dance too when I find it and its on a hard surface! My husband does an excellent job of getting the stains house so that's his job especially after becoming pregnant...(it gets me out of it every time ;P)

  • It sounds like it's time to find a way to block the cat from carpeted areas. Bonus points if you can do this without making it obvious to your hubby. "Sorry honey, she just seems to prefer to puke on the tile. And we did agree that the tile was your area to clean up!"

This is a BRILLIANT idea!  If only I could figure out how to do it.....I'm putting on my thinking cap now.
