3rd Trimester

Those of you who have had a high def. ultrasound.

I have to go to Maternal Fetal Medicine today at the hospital to have a high definition ultrasound due to high amniotic fluid levels.  My question to you ladies is:  What can I expect?  Is this the same as a 3d/4d ultrasound?  I have heard you don't have to drink a bunch of water, but I didn't have to do that at my OB's office either.  Just wondering.

TIA.

Re: Those of you who have had a high def. ultrasound.

  • Oh, okay.  They never said level II, they just said high definition.  I talked to my doctor and MFM yesterday, but they didn't say if I needed to do anyting special. Guess I should give them a call.  Thanks.

  • My MFM didn't require me to have a full bladder after 20 weeks, just like the regular US.   I would still check just to be safe.   The level II us is pretty cool, you get to see a lot of your LO.

  • I had a level II which they referred to at the time as high def.  I thought I was getting a 3d. Anyway, it was like a regular ultrasound, but with granular details.  They also had a perinatologist in the room to go through everything - the heart, the brain.. anything they found and the risks.  Good luck today!

  • Thanks for the information ladies and well wishes.  Even though it's not perfect circumstances, I am always happy to see my girl.
