August 2011 Moms

Welp, I've officially tried everything.

I have now come to terms and accept the fact that DD will not sleep during the day or at night. My last go to was cutting out a nap and keeping her up longer. She gets up for the day at 6:30-7am. I then keep her awake until 10am. She goes down easy because she's tired but up at 10:30. She then goes down for her second nap at 2:30-3:00 and is up at 3:30. Goes to sleep at 7:45-8:00. She still wakes 3-4x at night. So even only sleeping an hour throughout the day she still doesn't sleep. I know the ol sleep begets sleep thing, but that wasn't working either. I have tried everything. Eating, activities and awake times. There is absolutely nothing I can do at this point to get her to take longer naps and sleep better at night. My question is, do you think I should throw the third nap back into the mix so she's at least getting an extra half hour? By the way (for now) CIO isn't for us. I guess my point is if I accept her sleeping habits on a public forum I am committing to this acceptance. Kind of like closure I guess :)

  • Also she adjusted to being awake for these longer periods so it's not like she's fussy and I'm tormenting her by keeping her awake.

  • Have you thought of using a sleep consultant?

What do u mean? Like when she's tired put her down regardless of time? Or stay awake for as long as she needs? If so I pretty much do. I feel she created her own schedule. I stay home so there's no reason to stick to a schedule. I am however a stickler for routine but I will go off of it when needed. The only thing set in stone is her bedtime. I know I'm doing something wrong I'm just not sure what.

I haven't and I have no idea how and what to expect. Part of me feels silly for going to that extent. Don't ask me why but it just does.
  • I wish I had some helpful advice :( From what my mother tells me, I slept very little as a baby, but I turned out fine! Still, that doesn't do much for your sanity :/

  • I agree to just go by her cues. We always know it's nap time or bed time by LO's sleep face as we call it. He rubs his eyes on anything he can get near, and he starts whining non stop. I was going insane with the noise, and finally realized he was just telling me he wanted his crib. He won't co-nap anymore and fall asleep on our chests like he used to. He wants his own bed.

Not sure what you guys are doing, but try just going with what she's telling you, rather than putting her down and hoping for the best. DH runs into this when he tries to keep to a schedule on the weekends and I'm not there. He gets super frustrated.

  • I serioulsy have not been on here in about 6 months and I am so glad I found this.  My son is the same way.  I don't know what to do.  The doctor thought it was reflux  making him wake up... but his medication didn't do anything.  His doctor inally told me "that's just his sleeping habits!! Get use to it momma!"  -- I feel ya! My husband travels a lot and I usually can't sleep when he isn't here. Like last night I couldn't sleep until 2:30 and Logan woke up every 30 mins from 3am to 7.  I want to scream! I soooo feel your pain.  -- Does your lo sleep in the crib? I'm actually thinking about putting my mattress on the floor and sleeping with him in bed for a night to see if sleeps through the night.  (I've noticed that wheI and touch his face he snuggles into my hand and is back to sleep in a few minutes.) I know co sleeping is a no no...but with my hubby gone over a month and me getting maybe 4 hours of sleep in the past two weeks, I'm willing to try it.  :(  Good luck to you!

We start off by putting her in the crib and after that she's in our bed. Even sleeping with us she's restless and waking. She had reflux too but the meds never seemed to make a difference. I honestly am starting to think that this is her sleeping habits. So I'm going to just let go and accept it. One day she will sleep. I've managed to function this long without sleep so instead of getting frustrated and stressed I'm going to just go with the flow.
  • I would consider a sleep consultant.  Here in Boston you can schedule an appt with Ferber himself at Children's Hospital sleep lab!  Apparently he lives in my town, I'm dying to know where - if DD's middle of the night wakings don't end, I'll be the first at his doorstep.

Oh no! lol... I'm still gonna try it, but I'll probably be like you and have no luck.  Does your DD move ALL OVER the place when she sleeps?  My son is like a frecken break dancer! We will eventually get some sleep... maybe when they are teenagers and sleeping til noon? lol
