I told my midwife I was nervous about making it to the hospital

I'm 45 mins (with no traffic) from the hospital and I mentioned to my midwife today that I was honestly nervous about making it to the hospital. I told her I know the baby won't just fall out, but that with DS it was hard to know when to go to the hospital and I wanted to labor at home for as long as possible. She then looked at me and said. "Well are you saying you'd like to schedule an induction at 40 weeks?" I thought she was joking and said that no, I was just expressing my concern about when to go and she said she'd check my cervix at my next appointment. I just thought that was kind of weird.

  • That sounds really odd. Unless she has a dry-pan sense of humor... in which case... har...dee har.... har.

If she wasn't joking, it doesn't sound like any midwife I've ever met.

I understand what you were trying to tell her. You don't want to be stuck at home when your labor goes into high gear. I am an hour away from my hospital this time, and was an hour away from the one I delivered at last time. We will have a list of hotels near the hospital in case we feel the need to get close to the hospital, but not go TO the hospital. There are also restaurants and a mall near the hospital... yes, we went mall walking while I was in labor with DD. DH bought me a pandora charm. :)

  • I would imagine that is the question she is used to hearing from women who are worried about making it to the hospital in time. She probably just couldn't tell what you meant by telling her that.
