bebePOD vs. bumbo?

Thoughts on either of these products?

I really like the look of the Prince Lionhart bebePOD Flex Plus vs. the traditional Bumbo.  But I guess more than anything, I'm trying to determine if they helpful to have around the house or something that we should forgo altogether?

Re: bebePOD vs. bumbo?

  • I bought a used BebePod for DS1.  He hated it.  DS2 uses it a few minutes a day.  It's certainly not a necessity and I'd buy used.  They're on CL all the time for about 1/2 retail.

  • We never used one and I don't regret it. There was only a short period of time where I thought about getting one, but then realized it would be a waste because DD would be sitting on her own soon anyway.
  • I have done lots of research on these and I'm getting very mixed ratings and reviews. My little cousin has one and I just don't see how it helped him at all.

  • I just bought a used bumbo off CL. They're on all the time. I hadn't planned on getting one, but DS loves 'sitting' up, and usually I just sit on the floor and hold him up. I wouldn't pay full price for one though, and it definitely isn't necessary.

  • I used to work with babies and never knew someone to use one and not at least once have it tip over. It seems unnecessary to me.

used it 4 months with ds2. It never tipped. Several of my friends used them without issue as well.

  • Op if you don't go the craigslist route a girl on my bmb mentioned getting the summer infant 3 stage seat. It looks pretty cool.

  • I like our Bumbo. DS loves to sit in it while were on the couch or if we go to someone's house, we'll bring it and set at the table while we're eating. DS has used it since 3 months old and still uses it everyday.

LOL This, I was wondering what did you do to have it tip over?? These things are pretty stable and would probably recalled if they were likely to tip over... I think it's bizarre that it actually tipped over and I am still trying to imagine how something with such a large base can tip???

OP, DD used her bebepod and we don't regret getting it. The Bumbo is made of plastic while the Bebepod is made of silicone? Not sure what the material is but it's super cushion-y. It is also cheaper if you take into account it comes with a tray, two covers, and 3 toys. With the Bumbo, you'd have to buy all those as add on accessories or this is how it was back in 2010.

There are mixed reviews on it but this is just something that I bought based on my thoughts, and didn't find it to delay any milestones, etc. DD used to sit in it and watch me cook and do dishes, good times haha. Perhaps the biggest selling feature of these seats is the footprint/ portability (think restaurants, etc).

  • We had a bumbo (used from a consignment store) and used it all.the.time! It was our travel high chair before DD could sit in a restuarant high chair.  If I had it to do over again I'd get the bebePOD though because it has the strap so you can safely put it in a chair and use it as a high chair/booster chair.  You're technically not supposed to use the bumbo on a raised surfice but we did all the time, although we never walked away from her!

The bumbo has been recalled. It was recalled in 2007 because babies were falling out and it was causing "major head injuries" They were put back on the market a few weeks later with larger warnings about only using the bumbo at ground level. But the chair is known to tip if the child isn't watched and they arch their back to get out of the chair or throw a tantrum and the chair will tip over.
