I am almost 10 weeks pregnant. I have had brown spotting since week 4. Then I began having episodes of quick, bright red bleeding. Around week 6, I was told I had a small subchorionic hemorrhage. The red bleeding episodes continued. At week 8, I passed a golfball size clot and went to the ER. According to the ER, the subchorionic was so small it was questionable if it was even there or not. Well, last night I had major bleeding. I soaked through a pad in an hour. It tapered off after that, but was still quite a bit of bleeding. Then I passed a large clot, twice the size of the last one. Saw my OB this morning and it now appears that I have a large (5-7cm) SCH. My OB said that this doesn't necessarily mean the worst, but that honestly things could go either way. It would really help me to hear some others' stories of their experience with SCH that have turned out positively. TIA.

Re: XP: positive SCH stories please.
I have had SCH and chronic placental abruptions with my past two pregnancies and had two healthy full term babies. Currently, almost to my first goal of 28 weeks with baby#3 and am on bedrest due to the same issues.
It is scary and it's hard becuase you are early in your pregnancy so they can't really give you meds to help intervene at this point. I think around 14 wks they can. My SCH/abruption would resolve eventually and then I would have another one. I've been on procardia and terbutaline in the past to help calm the uterus and a couple stays in the hospital with magnesium sulfate. It's been an up and down journey but I am thankful to have two great outcomes and praying for #3.
Follow the doctor's orders and take it easy, drink lots of fluids and listen to your body. If you have another bleeding episode where you soak through a pad, then I would head to the ER or at least call your OB emergency line.
wish you the best!
I had minor spotting from weeks 6-11 when I had a really big bleed. Like I was sure I was miscarrying, several large clots and it soaked through my liner, underwear and leggings. Thankfully I was wearing a dress over it all, because I was at work :S
I had a bleed checked that was 4cm x 2cm and I continued to bleed for a couple days, much lighter after that first bleed which was my only hope driving to the hospital that it might be okay, different than my m/c a few months before. And then I was spotting for about 4 more weeks. After that, it resolved and I haven't had a problem since (and am now almost 32 weeks). The on-call OB said they are crazy common, just most people don't know they have them because they don't bleed. And that unless it was behind the placenta and much larger, usually totally benign to the pregnancy.
It's hard to see that much blood and feel confident, but it can work out okay. *hugs*. Hope yours resolves soon!
I had a SCH from weeks 5-13. I bled large fist sized clots. I thought I would miscarry at any moment. I had numerous ultrasounds and each week DD was still there. It's very scary and nerve wracking. Hopefully your SCH resolves soon!
(DD's premature birth unrelated to SCH)
I was terrified the first time it happened in my first pregnancy( bled through my pants at 15 weeks) scared the first time it happened in my second pregnancy ( out for a run and blood started dripping down my legs) but this time i was just expecting it.
I had a huge one with DS. I thought the worst but they did a u/s and his little heart was beating away! It took forever to clear up but finally did.
I had one with this LO but it was up so high that nothing ever came out. They saw it on the u/s.
It definitely doesn't mean the worst!! T&P for you to seal right back up!
