What happens if you would like your child evaluated after age 3?

I haven't read this board much, so please forgive me for jumping in without an intro.

I am only now looking into having my oldest undergo an evaluation for developmental concerns. Everything I am reading states that the "early" intervention occurs between ages 0 and 3. My son is nearly three. I don't know if there is time for him to fit into the age limits.

What direction does one take if the child is three or older, please?

Re: What happens if you would like your child evaluated after age 3?

  • I had trouble locating the contact information for someone in my school district who could get the ball rolling (we are in a smaller town and the early childhood programs are a bi-county program), so I called the principal of the school my child will attend and asked to be pointed in the right direction.

    Thank you for the replies.
  • I would still call early intervention in your area. They should be able to help guide you in the right direction. They might also be able to get him evaluated which would help with getting the school district to offer services.
