When will your nursery be ready?

We have done some moving around of things in the room that will be our nursery, but have not set anything else up.  I am 20 weeks and have had a previous loss so I am more nervous this time around.

How far along will you be when you have (or plan to have) your nursery all set up and ready to go for the most part?

Re: When will your nursery be ready?

  • We won't start prepping until we know the sex, so probably the beginning of third tri it will be more settled.

Ideally I'd like it to be done before the baby arrives but we'll see what happens.  It's harder this go around to get it done with DS to think of too.

We have to do the whole bit - drywall, mud, sand, paint, wire new lights, build a closet....we're starting from bare bones.  I prefer to just stick my head in the sand than think about the fact that it's cutting it close.

  • I'm hoping to have it painted and have major furniture set-up within the next month.  I'd like it to be completely done by 30 weeks so I'm ready to put baby shower gifts in their proper place and still have the energy to take care of nursery stuff.
  • Yea....I'll probably not finish it until July.  My DH is painting while I'm out of town the first weekend in May because I hate to paint.  I'll refinish the furniture on Friday's in June (we don't work Fri. in summer) and then in July we're going to do the mural.  I figure by then I'll have all of my shower stuff put away too.

  • I ordered the bedding today but will probably register for the crib mattress.  I have the crib and dresser.  I'll probably order the glider (gift-I have the money) once the bedding comes in so I can take it to Buy Buy Baby and hold it up to the fabric swatches.  I'll do things like rug/wall stuff/curtain rod bit by bit.

  • With DD's room, we had it done (for the most part) at around 30 weeks. We moved into the new house when I was about 20 weeks, so of course, we had lots of other irons in the fire.

After we confirm we are, in fact, having another little girl at our a/s in a couple of weeks, we'll get the nursery painted. That is if I don't change my mind about which girl is going in which room! LOL... If it stays as-is, the room will be done by around 25 weeks.

  • I'd love to get it done in May, but it probably won't get done until June or July :-/

  • DS's was ready when I was 25 weeks or so.  We were exciiiiiited.

DD's was finished when she was a few months old.  It was still a guest bedroom when we brought her home from the hospital, and we finished it up slowly as we got ready to put her in there.  And then we moved 6 months later.  ;)

Totally unconcerned about prepping a nursery for this one.  She'll be in our room for the first few months (at least) anyway.

  • Maybe by the time the baby arrives??? Then again, I'm still not convinced that we are actually having a baby....
  • We are in mist of a bathroom remodel so when we finish that I am hoping to start painting the nursery, we already have the crib, changing table and small dresser... the decor will slowly come after the painting hoping to have it all done by early June

  • My plan is to have the furniture (crib, dresser, changing table, glider) and decal up by the end of May.

  • This issue is stressing me out.  Our lease runs out Aug. 25, I am due Sept. 2, my husband may be taking a job in a town around 2 hours away around that exact time.  Should I be looking for a place to live in the town we live in now...OR in the new town.  I want to have all of the nursery complete, but I am at such a stand still... it is driving me nuts!   Tongue Tied

Can you stay in the existing place?  Do you have to move?  Ask to go month to month for a period of time?

I'm also at a standstill because I would like to move before September (we're currently renting, and I'd like to buy).  We won't have a nursery if we stay in our current place, so the baby will just be in our room.

I'd just get a bassinet and be prepared for the move, an infant isn't going to notice the difference :) GL

  • ha.  We plan on moving before the baby comes, but I don't know when that will happen.  There is no nursery talk until we get a new house.

You'll be just fine! Take a deep breath! :) DD still hasn't ever spent a night in her room (she's 18 months old) and there's not a thing in there I couldn't take of an infant without. Just get a good glider for the living room and as PP said, a bassinet.

Best of luck to you guys!

    That's my goal as well.

  • We really haven't even started yet. I don't know what I'll want to do until I know the sex. Hopefully it'll be done before the kid actually gets here, but I'm not making any promises.

  • Well, LO#2 and DD will be sharing a room, so I guess, whenever we decide to put the crib together.  I'd say not until August because we'll need to disassemble the twin bed in that room to make room for the crib.

    Yes definitely how I feel.

  • Ours will be ready in about 2 weeks.  Painting this weekend, ordering the cribs and done.  I want to get majority of it taken care of since twin pregnancies are so unpredictable, I don't want to wait.  So if bed rest rears it's ugly head, that part will be ready!  :)

  • I would love to say that we will have it ready for when the baby is born but probably not. The baby will be staying in our room for a few months anyway so no rush.

  • Not until August.  My ILs are coming to visit at the end of July so we won't move the guest bed out of there until they leave.  The dresser and nightstand are already in there so it's just a matter of moving the guest bed out and the crib (currently in the basement) and glider (currently in DD's room) in and decorating.  We aren't painting, so it'll just be decals or maybe a few prints, depending on what we end up going with.

  • I honestly have no idea.  DD is still in the nursery in the crib.  I hope to get her to a toddler bed in a new room by 18 months so that this baby can have the nursery.  (The nursery is so girly.  So it will have to be redone.)  That being said.  I don't know if I will wait until she is moved to start the nursery or not...  I know this baby will be in our room for at least two months.  I feel like I need to get her big girl room ready before the nursery.  Hopefully, she'll be ready for a toddler bed by 18 months.  Fingers crossed.  The school year is almost over.  So I'll have all summer to figure things out.  I'm not in a hurry this time.  I realize after having one, that it will all work out.  There's no hurry like last time.

  • I dont have kids and I stay at home, so I literally have nothing better to do for the next few months than prep the nursery. It is all pretty much together, We have painted the walls and DH who is a graphic designer has painted the mural on the feature wall. We also bought a large storage cubby (IKEA expedit bookcase) and a dresser changing table combo and the rocker. All we need is a crib that will be gifted to us at the baby shower (Or I will use my 10% completion coupon and buy it myself) and we're done!

  • Hopefully by end of July. It depends how long it takes for all the furniture to come in. We are ordering it middle of May.  As of now the nursery will be one of our spare rooms so need to clear anything out!

  • We're moving cross-country next week and will be in a furnished rental for a couple of months while we house hunt. We hope to move into a new house in July and we'll start working on it then. I'm guessing we'll be done mid-August.

  • We are planning on moving in July, so we cannot do anything until we move.  It probably will not be until the end of July before I can set the nursery up.  I absolutely hate waiting; however, I have no choice in the matter!

  • I have it all planned out in my head, more or less, but we're moving at the end of May and traveling at the beginning of June. I'm thinking it probably won't be done until August.

  • Ditto for us.  When the bathroom is finished, then on to the nursery!  I am thinking if I'm done before the baby gets here, then I'm doing great! :) DD - 9.29.12
  • Technically it already ready.  I just need to raise the crib mattress back up.  What isn't ready is DD's big girl room. I  hope to start working on that over the next few months but don't plan on moving her out until the new baby is 4 months or so.  Until then it will be in our room.  With DD we bought a new house at 36 weeks so her nursery wasn't ready until after she was born.  That sucked!  Everything that could go wrong with our closing did go wrong and I was 9 months pregnant refinishing our hardwoods.  I ended up with pneumonia and torn intercostal muscles.

Me too... Ours is still full of stuff to be sorted and moved to our just-emptied other spare room (we had a roommate, and that bedroom is on another level from ours, so we are moving our spare room upstairs and making the room downstairs, next to our room, the nursery).

  • Our nursery was my craft room but we cleaned it out and moved it to the basement. For now, we have painted, put in baby's dresser/changing table, and put a shelf up. I've also organized the clothes we have so far in the closet by making closet organizers.

  • Not for a while..the nursery is currently DHs office [which will be moving to the basement, which is unfinished so we have to do THAT first]. I'm thinking months and months..I'll probably be finishing it up around my EDD lol. I'm really slacking..I haven't done anything to get ready for the baby except go to my OB appts and buy a couple of sleepsacks.

  • We aren't painting, so I think we'll start setting things up and decorating in June. I have a couple sewing projects to do over the summer (a quilt, curtains and some stuffed animals). We are keeping things simple so I imagine we'll have it ready by August-ish.

  • We just finished DS's "big boy room" - and by finish I mean putting up sheetrock, installing carpet, etc. When we actually can get him moved into that room, we can start the nursery. It's going to be quite awhile. Hopefully, by the beginning of August??????

  • Right now our housing situation is up in the air so we probably won't be able to do anything until July :/

  • Our nursery is being worked on now. We had just about completely gutted the house when we bought it a year ago and we've been working on the closets, doors, trim, drywall... all of that. My DH should be priming the nursery and the other bedroom which will be our office/craft room this weekend and hopefully painting them next weekend.

Then we'll need to have our carpet guy come. So hopefully by the end of April it will be ready. We weren't planning on getting the furniture quite yet but my parents surprised us and ordered it all. The crib came yesterday and the glider/changer are on their way now.

  • We have to move DS out of the nursery (and in with DD) before I can start anything. I want to wait on this till nearer to the end because I know they won't sleep as good as they do now. I'll probably do this in June?

Plus, a lot of my nursery is being ordered off Etsy between now and May. Meaning it won't arrive until June-ish.

Thus, I'd bet my nursery will be mostly worked on in July (30-34 weeks) and I'll deliver early August (35-36 weeks).
