Why are ducks gender neutral anyway? warning: slightly disturbing info inside

I mean, they engage in rape flights, and apparently necrophilia as well...

From Wikipedia (I've read Moeliker's actual paper, but figured no one else would want to):

Necrophilia in animals is where a living animal engages in a sexual act with a dead animal. In one of the most well-known examples, Kees Moeliker of the Rotterdam Natural History Museum, Netherlands observed sexual activities[58] outside his office between a live duck and a dead one. Two male mallards which Moeliker believed were engaged in rape flight, a common motif in duck sexual behaviour, collided with his window. "When one died the other one just went for it and didn't get any negative feedback?well, didn't get any feedback," according to Moeliker, who described the event as "homosexual necrophilia." The case was reported scientifically in Deinsea 8-2001, along with photos.[59], and earned Moeliker an Ig Nobel Prize in biology, awarded for humorous research.[60]Necrophilia in animals is where a living animal engages in a sexual act with a dead animal. • Yeah well...I'm still using them in my nursery.
  • Loading the player...
  • I've been to plenty of parks and never saw a duck do that.
  • I'm over it.

    I still think they're cute.

  • Oh, I meant no offense to anyone who is doing ducks in nursery or on clothes... I like ducks. I was just curious.
  • Because let's be honest, who wants to decorate with this?!???imageimage">
  • It is hilarious that this guy spent his research time on this!

AHAHAHAHA... KatGapp, I looooooooove the "motivational posters" - haven't seen that one before though!

  • Right, and cars and trucks and planes are used for suicide bombings, so no boy truck theme, the sports industry is full of "stars" who use illegal drugs and cheat on their wives, there goes the sports theme. Hrm, is toile safe or does that depict an era where women had no rights and slaves were in fashion...

okay, I'm not really angry, just thought this whole thing was humorous!

Glad you saw the humor, Rich. I just wanted to bring up necrophiliac homosexual rape flight in mallards - you know, to lighten this board UP! (Since I can't eat any rum balls)

hehe, okay good. And woah, that is weird that ducks are necrophiliacs! There's a duck pond in the park across the street from my house and now I have a whole new perspective on them!
