Natural Birth

When to take a hypnobirthing class?

If you took a hypnobirthing or similar type of class, when did you take it and did you think you took it at the right time?

Was it too far away from your due date and you felt you forgot things that you learned?  Or did you like having the extra time to practice the methods that you learned?  Maybe it was just the right timing?

Thanks!

Re: When to take a hypnobirthing class?

  • the institute recommends late second trimester. so i tell prospective students this.

i took my own class when i was 12 weeks. it was early and i was the only one iwthout a huge belly in my class. i also didn't get to do new mom stuff with the other students, as they all had their babies 3 months before me.

but, i had plenty of time to really work on the techniques, to really eliminate fears and concerns i had going into the birthing (hbac attempt after failed hb with #1), and it was just right for me.

  • I didnt have a chance to take the classes which was really sad for me.  I read the book though and am practicing the relaxation techniques on my own.  Apparently if you live in BFE its hard to find hyponbirthing classes.  Any way if I could have I would have taken the class during the second trimester and I would have read the book way sooner.  While I started the book in the second trimester I didnt finish it until the 3rd.  I had started relaxation techniques right away but I did not start the perineal massage.  *sigh* we will see how the birth goes.  I am still very hopeful for a peaceful natural birth with deep relaxation.  Good luck to you!

  • I started mine at 25 weeks and I'm glad I did it early, there's a lot of practice involved and I like that I still have lots of time to perfect the techniques and scripts.

  • I got the book and CDs and started using those early in my 2nd tri.  I didn't start taking the classes until I was 30w.  That seemed to be the right amount of time although I think if I had waited to read the book and start practicing it would have been a little late for me.
