TTC After a Loss

A recipe worth sharing (NTTCALR)

I always make popcorn on the stove.  It tastes way better, and it's better for you than microwave popcorn.  I just made "movie theatre popcorn" and it was delicious!  Here is is:

3 TBSP peanut oil, grapeseed oil or canola oil

1/2 cup kernels

2-4TBSP butter

salt to taste

Heat the oil and 4 kernels in a large and wide pan with cover on medium heat.  When all 4 kernels pop, add the other kernels and re-cover.  Remove from heat for about 20 seconds.  When you hear the kernels start to pop shake the pan, holding the cover on, over the heat.  (Be sure to use pot holders!)  Alternate between resting the pan directly on the heat and shaking the pan over the heat.  Once the popping slows, remove from heat and keep the cover on until popping stops entirely.  Carefully pour the popcorn into a large mouth bowl.  Melt butter in the pan you cooked the kernels in and pour over the top of popcorn.  Salt to taste.

!Be careful of hot oil and steam!

This is soooo good and makes a ton so there's more than enough to share with your DH.   I hope you ladies enjoy it!

  • Yum, I love stove popcorn wayyy better than microwave popcorn.

  • DH and I love popcorn!  We have an air popper so that we can stay away from the chemicals in the microwave stuff too.  I remember my mom doing it on the stovetop when I was younger - I'll have to try it too!

omg it is SO good on the stovetop, but it only works on a gas stove.  I've tried to make it for my dad on his flat-top electric and it does not work.

Huh. We have always had awesome popcorn off our electric stove. Do you use a whirly-pop (or something similar)?
