  • Do you have a fairly easy going doctor? Given your circumstance I would say it wouldn't be out of line for you to request some things to be different (such as you holding baby right away etc.) Have you ever seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5RIcaK98Yg&feature=share It's very interesting and I think some of it could benefit you if you could get your dr on board.

Thank you all so much for the replies!

Im not really worried about the surgery itself. But the heal time. I left the hospital within hours of giving birth last time and was out and walking the next day. (trying to not think about it I guess) So the pain meds they give you you can take while breast feeding? That's a huge concern for me. Also I don't want anyone but DH holding my baby before I do. And I'm also worried about how long I will have to go before holding him. It's super important to me to get to hold my LIVING baby soon after delivery. ( not as important as a LIVING baby though)

I haven't read through all the responses yet, but wanted to weigh in.  They gave me pain meds in the hospital and told me to make sure I kept on top of the pain, they were safe for breastfeeding and they did not affect my ability to breastfeed at all, my milk came in pretty soon for a c-section (I think the next day or two days).

Holding your baby will depend on your hospital and how they deal with c-sections.  Ours had recently changed how they do them.  DD was taken out, taken to the table and wrapped, DH went over saw her and took pictures, then brought her over so I could see her.  Then they both left the room.  She was taken to my recovery room and weighed and bathed with DH and was waiting there for me when I got there.  I was able to hold her as soon as I felt I could, and carried her while they wheeled me to my room.

  • Glad I could help, I hope your Dr can be onboard as well. I know of 2 surgeons at a hospital 2 hours from me that actually do most of that stuff. The midwives love working with them because most of their clients don't have intentional c-sections so it's the best of a not so ideal situation Smile Best of luck to you!!

  • Hello! A planned c-section is nice because you know when it's going to happen! And you can do your hair ahead of time! And not be in pain! Here's my advice on that: if you can, schedule the first one of the day. You have to fast before, and that's easier to do that while you're asleep.

I was super worried about breastfeeding and when I would get to hold DS and all that. The hospital I delivered in is big on skin-to-skin and breastfeeding, and after I got stapled up and to recovery, they brought DS in right away (like before my parents came back or anyone else but DH). I would just stress to them that you want to hold the baby as soon as possible and tell them why, and I bet they'll make every concession to let you.

You won't need as many narcotics post-op as they'll lead you to believe. You're a tough cookie!

Good luck and keep us posted. I know natural birth is beautiful, but a planned c-section ain't so bad, either. ;)
