When to give baby shower hostess her gift?

My shower is this Saturday and I'm wondering if it's more appropriate to give my friend her hostess gift before everyone arrives, or in front of everyone (when I thank her). I'm thinking it would be best to do it before, but I'd like to get some input on what others did.

    I gave my hostesses their gifts at the end of the shower when people were leaving.

    At one shower I gave the hostesses their gifts after the guests had left, at the other I gave it to them right before people started showing up.  I recommend after, because they were so busy with last minute set up, they really just said thank you and still opened them after when they had time.

    Thanks for the input ladies! I think I'll go ahead and give it to her after the shower. Big Smile

    I presented my 2 hostess with their gifts at the end of the shower. At the end of my shower I did a thank you type speech to all of the guest and one to my hostess. They did not open their gifts in front of everyone. I also thanked them again later that evening.

    I had 3 people help with my shower, I gave my mom hers the day before shower (we got pedicures together), one after everyone went home (she got a lawn ornament) and I mailed the last one in a thank you note because she left before I gave it to her (gift card).
