Fellow Bumpies who pump @ work, learn from my mistake....

I'm sure many of you have already thought of this but it may be a good idea to keep an emergency set of pump parts (breast shields w/valves & membranes and bottles or bags) at work in case you do what I did this morning and forget all of those parts!!

I have been under the weather with a cough/cold and completely spaced out this morning and forgot my pump parts. (DH and I clean them every night of course and so there is a fresh, clean set waiting for me in the morning but I have to remember to grab them and put them with my pump) I remembered the pump itself, but no parts.  So, after dropping DS off at DC,  2 Target stops later, I was able to pick up a spare set of the breast shields w/valves and will just pump into the bags that I always keep in my pump bag.  But I already had 2 sets of the pump parts and did not need to spend money on a third!  Needless to say I will be keeping that third set at work at all times in the event that I do this again.  Just thought I would pass my experience on so that someone might benefit.  ; )

  • I know a lot of people actually keep a manual pump at work for that exact reason. (Luckily I only live 10 min from work, and have never forgotten my pump. Fingers crossed.)

  • and batteries in case the power ever goes out.
  • I have forgotten bottles so I always have the Medela bags in my bag, I forgot my shields one day and had to stop at Target and buy another set so I always keep a set in my bag.  It's so frustrating to get all set up and then realize that you forgot something.  Good PSA.

  • I have forgotten mine a number of times.  Thankfully, there is a breastfeeding center a couple of blocks from my office that sells everything that I need.  But oh is it pricey!  I too have learned to keep a spare set in my desk and some storage bags in my bag just in case.

  • Been there and done that, unfortunately. I live little over 15 mins away from work and work about 15 mins from the nearest store that carried the parts. So I drove home and back. It only took 45 mins and my work did not count my time again me thank goodness, but I thought to myself that I better keep extra parts around.

  • I've forgotten flanges once and the bottles a second time but both times remembered the pump.  Luckily DH is a SAHD and was able to bring me the needed parts but my boobs were not happy with my mistake!  I ended up taping a list of what to bring every day that I check so that I don't make the mistake again.

Yes I have been doing this for the list of things to bring to DC every Monday but I guess I need to make a more obvious note, "PUMP AND PUMP PARTS!!" and stick it on the back of the door before I leave, LOL!
