DH and I went to our first Phillies game of the season yesterday. Not only was it a beautiful day and we got to see the Phils whoop up on the Mets (sorry New Yorkers) but I felt like my belly was getting semi celebrity treatment.
A stranger offered me a bottle of overpriced ballpark water even though I had my own drinks. Crowds departed like the Red Sea on the concourse so I could walk through. And the most amazing part was after the game. Let me paint the picture for you.
The Flyers are in the playoffs (BIG deal around here) and had a game start at 3 (about an hour before the baseball game ended). Their stadium is basically in the same parking lot as the Phillies'. In between the stadiums is a brand new "entertainment district" place that has a bunch of restaurants and bars in it. Naturally, after the Phillies game DH wanted to go over and try to get into the entertainment district to watch the rest of the Flyers game. Everyone else had the same idea. That meant a couple thousand people are outside waiting for people to leave the place so they would let others in. They were letting like 3-5 people in every 15 minutes or longer. There was no line just a huge crowd of people behind a half hearted attempt at a rope. I'm standing where the door man can see me and my husband points to my belly.
THE GUY LET US IN!! I couldn't believe it. My husbands face was like a kid on Christmas morning. And it was pretty awesome inside.
I need to get out more!
What were your favorite perks or nice gestures so far?
Re: Pregnancy Perks
People have let me go first in the line for the bathrooms a few times.
My favourite though was last week when we were showing my in-laws all the touristy places in DC. A lot of them you get security checked, you're not allowed to take in water or food. I had my water bottle and a bunch of snacks in my bag. People who had water bottles (not the disposable kind) were being asked to throw them in the trash! When they inspected my bag and found mine, I wasn't prepared to throw it away, so I just told them I was pregnant and needed to keep constantly hydrated. They made me drink some of the water to prove it was safe and then let me in with it, snacks and all.
It just shows that some security folk do have a heart.
mrsmckinky, that is a happy story! So cute that the guy made your husband carry everything too.
This is exactly how I feel. I'm not used to it at all. The gestures sometimes feel silly but I am so appreciative of them at the same time.
p.s. I love Fenway Park
I was just telling DH how much fun the 7th inning stretch is there. We are Phillies fans but love going to other ballparks.
